Note: If you do not complete them on time, the University will assume that:
  1. your room is free from any defects, and
  2. you will be responsible for the make good or replacement cost for any items found missing or malfunctioning during room inspection if such defected items were not reported in the Hostel Online System before.

When typhoon signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted:

  • Non-local students may continue with your trips to the Halls. We would arrange you to check into the rooms. But you need to visit our G4 Service Counter on the next working day to complete the check-in procedures.
  • For local students, the check-in procedures will be postponed to the next working day.

Welcome to the Village CARE in 2024/25! As you are about to check in to the Village CARE, you are strongly advised to pay attention to the following must-know information to ensure a healthy and safe living in the Village CARE. 

Do NOT Use Any Device that Generates Scent, Smoke or Heat

NO fragrance, mosquito coils, or insect foggers should be used in the bedrooms as they will trigger the fire alarm system. Use of any device that generates scent, smoke or heat such as aroma diffuser and electric insert repellent is strictly prohibited within the student residence area.

Flammability Standards of Mattress and Upholstered Furniture

You MUST obtain prior approval from the Management of Student Residences before you bring your own mattresses / upholstered furniture into the Village CARE.

Bringing in Large or Electrical Items into the Village CARE

You MUST obtain prior approval from the Management of Student Residences before you bring in items with any side longer than 1 meter or Electrical appliances with high power consumption (except light appliances for grooming purpose). For details, please click HERE. Residents, especially non-local residents who come to Hong Kong for their first time, are advised to read the Safe Use of Plugs, Adaptors and Extension Units.  Any 2-pin plugs and other substandard adaptors are NOT allowed.

Luggage

Bring minimum luggage to the Village CARE on the day of check-in to avoid congestion. There is no provision of beddings in the room.

The following items are not allowed in the Village CARE:

  • Alcohol or drugs
  • Cigarettes
  • Weapons
  • Pets and animals
  • Mahjong and other gambling materials
  • Electrical appliances not complying with local safety standards
  • Deep reach insect fogger(滅蚤煙霧器), fragrance, mosquito coils
  • Any device that generates scent, smoke or heat

You must obtain prior approval in order to bring in the following items into the Village CARE:

  • Your own mattresses/upholstered furniture 
  • Any items with any side longer than 1 meter 
  • Electrical appliances with high power consumption 

Towers, Rooms and Beds

Your Room and Bed are shown as

Tower : E – East Block; S – South Block
Floor : it is a 1- or 2-digit number
Room : it is a 2-digit number
Bed : L – bed on the left side when you enter the room
          R – bed on the right side when you enter the room
          S – single room

For example, E 7 10 L denotes:
        East Block
        7/F
        Room number 10
        Left bed

All students are assigned to the vacant beds (L/R in 2-person room, S in Single Room in a unit).

Air-conditioning and Laundry Service

Students should use their Octopus Card to pay for their laundry and drying in the Laundry Rooms on 9/F.

*Non-local freshmen and Exchange students are reminded that they should obtain Octopus Cards upon arrival in Hong Kong. Details of Octopus Cards are available HERE

Charge of Air-conditioning:
HK$1.4 per kWh

Charge of Laundry machines:

  • HK$5.4 per washing cycle around 40mins

  • HK$2 per 10 mins drying

Internet 

Residents are able to access the HKBU campus network in the Village CARE through both wired and wireless connections. The details of internet connections are available HERE.

Reporting Defects

To report defects, please follow the path:

Login to Hostel Online System > Defect

For defect which requires immediate attention, please contact the G4 service counter of Undergraduate Halls or the G/F security counter of Village CARE (after office hours).

Must-Know Information

You are highly advised to pay attention to the following must-know information to ensure a healthy and safe living in the Village CARE.

Special Arrangement during the Soft Opening of Village CARE

  • Visitation is not available at Village CARE during the soft opening period and residents are advised to meet their visitors outside of the student hostels.
  • Mailbox service, handling of parcels and collection of food delivery are not available during the soft opening period and residents are advised to make alternative arrangements.

Payment for Air Conditioning and Other Utilities

  •    You can charge up the air conditioner, other utility payments in their room and laundry machines on 9/F by Octopus Card or via "Student Hostel Payment" at HKBU Mobile App.
  • *In addition to the in-room air-conditioning, other electricity consumption within their bedrooms and units/apartments will be charged based on a userpay principle.
