The Hong Kong Jockey Club Undergraduate Scholarship 2024-25 (Deadline: 3-January 2025)
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust (“the Trust”) established The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships in 1998 with an aim to nurture caring leaders for a better Hong Kong. In 2024/25 academic year, up to THREE scholarships will be awarded to UGC-funded Year 1 local students pursuing their first undergraduate degree in HKBU.
The Undergraduate Scholarship covers (1) full tuition fee, academic and living allowance for the entire normative duration of study period towards an undergraduate degree programme; (2) overseas learning subsidies; and (3) opportunities to participate in overseas leadership programmes, networking and community service activities, etc..
The awardees of 2023/24 cohort were entitled the following items under the Scholarship scheme, for reference please:

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the “Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships – Undergraduate Scholarship”, applicants must:
- Be full-time local undergraduate students who are enrolled in a UGC-funded degree programme, pursuing their first undergraduate degree;
- Have the right of abode or the right to land, or have entered Hong Kong on One-way Permits;
- Have completed their senior secondary education in Hong Kong;
- Have a high standard of academic performance: [see Note 1]
- Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Examination (HKDSE) in 2024 or other recognized entry qualifications in 2024;
- Applicants must attain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the end of the first term or be ranked among top 10 percent of their class;
- Have outstanding achievements or exceptional leadership qualities;
- Be proficient in English and spoken Chinese (Cantonese or Putonghua).
[Note 1] Applicants with outstanding achievements or exceptional leadership qualities, but with a lower GPA of 3.30 or above, or a lower class rank (among top 15 percent) may still be considered. Evidence of outstanding achievements or exceptional leadership qualities are subject to examination by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships Secretariat (the “Scholarships Secretariat”), which may include, but not limited to, awards, prizes, or other forms of recognition or credentials for demonstrating leadership in projects that benefit the community, or other notable accomplishments.
Remarks:
1. The awardee of “Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships – Undergraduate Scholarship” should not or should no longer receive another full scholarship or any other scholarships or awards that subsidize their local tuition fees, academic expenses and living expenses. Therefore, students receiving the following scholarships are NOT eligible to apply for the Jockey Club Scholarship:
- AIA Scholarship
- Multi-faceted Excellence Scholarship
- Centaline Charity Fund Scholarship
- The Wharf Art Scholarship Scheme
- TrustTomorrow/Full Tuition Scholarship offered by The Zubin Foundation
- HKBU admission scholarships
2. Recipients of admission scholarships offered by the University or School/Faculty can still apply for “Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships – Undergraduate Scholarship”, provided that they agree to return the scholarship money received in 2024-25 academic year to the University upon receiving the award of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Scholars are selected according to their merits and attributes in the following aspects:
Intellect | Academic achievements, analytical aptitude and appetite, genuine interest in their subject of study, imagination, curiosity, and a global vision |
Character | Strength of character – integrity, courage, responsibility, empathy and compassion, social awareness, humility |
Leadership | Outstanding leadership and team work inside or outside school activities, personal accomplishments or community commitments; potential and capabilities in challenging status quo; embrace diversity and a spirit of collaboration |
Commitment to service | Commitment to betterment of others; care for social and community issues of public rather than personal benefit; connect with Hong Kong and has a view about how its community needs may be addressed |
CONDITIONS FOR RENEWAL
The scholarship shall be reviewed on an annual basis subject to:
(1) The scholar’s continued enrolment in the same institution;
(2) A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30;
(3) Active participation and achievements in leadership role and/or community services; and
(4) Be recommended by the University.
THE JOCKEY CLUB SCHOLAR EXPERIENCE
Recipients of the Scholarship will be honored as “Jockey Club Scholars” or “JC Scholars” in short. Being a JC Scholar, the student will become a member of a network of past and current JC Scholars and enjoy various privileges, such as opportunities to participate in learning, networking and community service programmes.
All JC Scholars are expected to actively support the Trust’s activities to the best of their abilities. Most importantly, they are required to attend the scholarship award presentation ceremony and induction programme of their cohort.
JC Scholars are also automatically enrolled as a member of The Jockey Club Scholars Alumni Association, a self-running, Trust-supported organization that was established to mobilize JC Scholars to serve the community.

(2) Fill in the application form with Adobe Acrobat Reader (hand-writing is NOT accepted).
(3) Combine the completed application form with the copies of all the required supporting documents as ONE PDF file:
- Hong Kong Identity Card
- Public examination certificates
- Documentary proofs for awards/scholarships obtained
- Documentary proofs for participations/achievements in extra-curricular activities/community services
- One reference letter in English (optional) from the school principal/teacher or activity organiser, etc).
Your PDF file should NOT exceed 25MB. You may not need to scan the documents in the highest/top quality if standard quality suffice.
(4) Name your PDF file in the format of "HKJC_student ID_full name" (e.g. HKJC_24242222_Chan Tai Man). We may not be able to identify your submission if you do not name your file as instructed.
(5) Upload the PDF file via our “Documents Upload Platform” at https://sfa.hkbu.edu.hk/supporting_docs/ (need to login with your SSOid). Please choose and click “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship – Undergraduate Scholarship 2024-25” in the menu to upload the documents. We will NOT be able to receive your documents if you choose another scheme, so please click the scheme name carefully. The “Documents Upload Platform” will close automatically at 11:59 pm of 3 January 2025 (Friday). You will receive an auto-email from the system upon successful upload of your PDF file.
- To avoid being late, you should upload your PDF well before the deadline, as there may be unexpected technical errors/difficulties that require you extra time to solve. Note that the submission time is subject to our system’s clock on the website, which may or may not be the same as your watch, and the Office of Student Affairs has the discretion to make final judgments on whether the application is considered late.
- Online application without the submission of the documentary proofs will NOT be considered. Partial submissions / late applications will NOT be considered either.
(6) After internal vetting, short-listed candidates will be invited to attend the internal selection panel interview scheduled in around late January 2025. Up to 6 suitable candidates will then be recommended to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for their final selection through an interview in February 2025. Successful applicants will be informed of the result of their applications in writing tentatively in March 2025, and are required to sign an undertaking letter on the terms of the UG Scholarship.
Note: Students who cannot attend the selection interviews due to overseas exchange/placement/internship should NOT apply.
