With the hit of COVID-19 and the rapid economic downturn, many students and their families may face financial difficulties. The HKBU SEED Fund(學生種子基金)was set up in April 2020 to provide emergency financial relief to students with urgent needs and other worthy projects.

The emergency situations should occur recently. Examples include but not limited to:
- job lost/salary cut of a breadwinner or household member in the family
- illness/medical expenses of applicant or family members from surgical procedures or mental health treatments

UGC-funded full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students with proven financial hardship caused by emergency situations may apply for financial assistance from the SEED Fund at any time in the academic year. Applicants should first contact the SFA Unit by email, phone or in person for a brief consultation. Eligible applicants will be asked to complete an application form and provide supporting documents as appropriate. The documents required and the approved grant amount are subject to the applicant's situation and financial need. Successful applicants may receive the grant in around 4-5 working days.
