Non-local Taught Postgraduates

Policy & Legal Matters: Non-local Taught Postgraduates

Currently, non-local students in full-time locally-accredited postgraduate programmes are individually issued with a "No Objection Letter" (NOL) by the Immigration Department on approvals of their entry applications. The NOL allows a non-local student to take up a certain number of hours of part-time employment on campus, curriculum-related internships or summer jobs.

Starting from 1 November 2023, full-time non-local postgraduate students are temporarily exempted from the restrictions on taking up part-time jobs. The arrangement, led by the Labour and Welfare Bureau, will be implemented on a trial basis for two years. Eligible students will get an NOL setting out the above exemption arrangement issued by the Academic Registry.
