How to Choose Your Career?

To decide your career, it is essential that you know about your strengths, weaknesses, interests etc. A job that looks attractive in all aspects does not guarantee that it suits you the best.

There are 4 steps to help you decide your career path:

Step 1: Get to know yourself?

You could always take an inventory of the skills and experiences you have, the things that interest you. Gather the items and check which industry or position best matches your interests.

You might get started with the help of the following questions:

• What do you really want to do in life?
• What do you expect your life to look like in five, ten, twenty years from now?
• In what part-time or summer jobs have you been most interested? Why?
• What led you to choose your field of major study?
• What academic subjects did you like best/ least? Why?

In addition, we organize Career Advisory Programme for freshmen to explore their career interests and facilitate them to develop career plans. Besides, the Directed Career Search Programme every year to help you locate your career interest, and develop work-related skills. Based on your preferences, set your career goals and decide the steps you need to take to move forward to your career path.

Step 2: Use services provided by Career Centre

The Career Centre provides a one-stop service to help students move from campus to career. You could walk-in during our office hour to seek for professional consultation. We would help you locate your career path, prepare your cover letter and resume, acquire the necessary interview skills and other transferable skills. Workshops, recruitment talks, job exhibitions and career visits will also be conducted in a regular basis to familiarize you with the job market.

Step 3: Equip yourself with the necessary skills

After identifying your career goals, you should participate in programmes that expose you to the relevant industry. In light of this, we have organized

When you are confident about your skills and qualifications, you could start sending out your cover letter and resume to the potential employers.
