Sharing by Past Participants
... provided me a unique opportunity to interact with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and age groups. Furthermore, being an international student who doesn’t speak Cantonese or Mandarin, with the help of my fellow peers from the program I was able to improve my Cantonese skills and learn some new phrases and words. The program helped me to be engaged with the local community more... the third and fourth stages of the program were especially valuable and insightful for me. Although, I was familiar with boxing previously, I had never had an opportunity to teach and coach someone else. The underprivileged students who participated in the program were from primary and secondary schools, meaning that the age gap required different approach for both. While, fun is important for kids, a deeper engagement is valued by teenagers. During the Workshop on health management, I had an opportunity to get to know more about the secondary school students .. I was happy that each of them are dreaming high.. After the program completion, I can definitely say that my communication skills had improved and it became easier for me to communicate with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and age groups even if I don’t speak their language. Now, I am better equipped to listen actively and respond thoughtfully...
... Before joining this programme, I was a bit nervous as I did not have any friends joining this programme. I was thinking to myself whether I would be able to make any new friends in this programme. However, after I joined this programme I was able to make new friends and we were able to practice together. This improved my communication skills and made me more confident to be able to approach people. I could also share about my culture to different students and learn about their own cultures...at the end of the programme, I was much more fit and confident in my physical ability... I hope to be able to continue this journey of my physical fitness in future.
