Interdisciplinary General Education Courses
The Leadership Qualities Centre, co-operated with faculties, organized different IGE courses, namely:
- “Paths to Service Leadership in Health Service (GCAP 3067)”
- “Service Leadership in Action (Health Services) (GCAP 3075)”
These courses introduce the concept and principle of servant leadership and provided students with opportunities in practical planning and implementing service project. Students could learn to master different service skills, communication skills and leadership competencies.

2022-2023 Semester 2

Care Service (13 Apr 2023)
After weeks of preparation, students carried out their care service in 4 groups to 14 elders. To address the elders' needs in the post-pandemic era, different activities aimed at relieving their stress and creating a positive experience were designed, such as Turkish Lamp DIY workshop, meditation experience, simple exercises and etc. The students also guided the elderly to visit the HKBU Gallery and the Museum of Chinese Medicine to enhance their understand of HKBU history and recent accomplishments.

Health Service (9 Mar 2023)
14 elders visited HKBU to attend a health talk delivered by Dr. Kelvin Yue. After the talk, students taking the course performed Tuina on the elders under the supervision of Chinese medicine practitioners.

Care Service (24 Nov 2022)
After weeks of preparation, students carried out their care service in 8 groups to around 40 elders. To address their diverse needs, a variety of activities, including making herbal sachets, mixing aroma oils, creating artwork, etc. were organised by students. A guided visit to the Museum of Chinese Medicine was also arranged to introduce the profound and well-established history of Chinese Medicine to the elderly.

Service Planning and Discussion (3, 10, 17 Nov 2022)
To facilitate students' preparation of the care service, students were given opportunities to identify the needs of the elderly and develop the programme details with coaching and advising from course instructors and an experienced social work from Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong.

Around 40 elders from Yan Oi Tong - Woo Chung District Elderly Community Centre in Tuen Mun and NAAC Shamshuipo District Elderly Community Centre in Sham Shui Po visited HKBU. Dr. Kelvin Yue delivered a health talk to the elders, while students taking the course performed Tuina on the elders under the supervision of Chinese medicine practitioners.

47 students were spilt into 2 groups to visit Yan Oi Tong - Woo Chung District Elderly Community Centre in Tuen Mun and NAAC Shamshuipo District Elderly Community Centre in Sham Shui Po. During the visit, they had more underestanding on the elderly service and got a chance to interact with the elderly for better preparation of the upcoming service.

2021-2022 Semester 1
Care Service (24 Nov 2021)
Our students delivered care service to 46 elderly after one month of preparation. A a series of activities, including congitive games, physcial exercises, arts workshop, etc. were conducted to increase the physical, mental and cognitive well-being abilities of the elders. They also guided the elders to visit different facilities in the campus as many of them were new to HKBU.

Community Visit (27 Oct 2021)
46 students were spilt into 2 groups to visit Yan Oi Tong - Woo Chung District Elderly Community Centre in Tuen Mun and Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong Chai Wan Neighbourhood Elderly Centre in Chai Wan. They got to know the diversified service provided by the elderly centres and interacted with the elderly to know more about their needs.

2021-2022 Semester 2
The face-to-face service had to be converted online due to the surging pandemic. After months of preparation and interviews with the elderly, the students were divided into four groups to tailor-make personalised service plan for the elderly. Notwithstanding the difficulties faced for online service, the students were very enthusiastic in delivering service to the elders via Zoom.
