Mainland University Exchange Tours

Mainland University Exchange Tours (also known as Ten Thousand People's Scheme) provide students with experiential learning opportunities of cultural exchange, service or short-term class at universities on the Mainland China, spanning from south to north. They aim at mutual learning and cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Mainland tertiary students, and enhancing participants' academic knowledge and understanding of the nation. The organising Mainland institutions usually shoulder the costs of visit (including entrance fee and regional transportation), tuition fee, accommodation, and sometimes catering, while the participants have to buy the flight or train tickets and travel on their own between Hong Kong and the destination, and take care of some personal expenses only.

Participants have to pay a refundable deposit to confirm participation, and complete a questionnaire and an individual report to conclude their learning experience. Upon successful completion of the tour requirement, the deposit will be refunded. Moreover, transportation subsidy will be provided to participants in full-time undergraduate degree programmes (those in self-financed undergraduate degree programmes are supported by their colleage/department subject to availability of funding) once per year. Successful completion of one exchange tour also grants one Co-curricular Learning (CCL) unit.

All full-time HKBU students are welcome to apply. Yet local students, UGC-funded students and first-time participants have priority to joining the Tours.

Mainland University Exchange Tours will be centrally administered by the Mainland Development Office since the 2017-18 Academic Year. Please visit Mainland Development Office's website for more information and individual programme details.
