For students admitted as Year 1 in or after AY2018/19, directly admitted as Year 2 in or after 2019/20, or directly admitted as Year 3 in or after 2020/21

U-Life Programme is a non-credit bearing graduation requirement for undergraduate degree students. Workshops and activities in U-Life programme aim to prepare the students for the new life at HKBU and enhance their capabilities to face challenges and find solutions that come from academic or work environment.
 

Why do we need U-Life Programme?
 

U-Life Programme will help you, as new students, to:
 

  1. Adaption
    Acquire the skills and knowledge for adapting to the new life at the University;

  2. Awareness
    Understand academic integrity and examine the issues of global citizenship with an awareness of your communities;

  3. Application
    Develop leadership skills, communication skills and team work spirit that can be applied to your daily life.

*All degree programmes of SCE follow the same requirements as the UGC-funded degree programmes. Programmes include:
 

  • Top-up degree programmes -  same as "Direct year 3 entrant" as shown in the above table

  • Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) Programme

  • Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Early Childhood Education Programme - follows the same starting from the 2022 intake
     

The deadlines stated above are in terms of the student's normal study period at HKBU. Exchange period, suspension or special leave of study period duly approved by the Academic Registry for 1 semester or more will be excluded from the required time frame of U-Life completion. In such cases, the deadline will be extended accordingly by semester(s).
 

* In terms of U-Life Programme requirement, the end of the First Semester of an academic year is defined as 31 December; the end of the Second Semester is defined as 31 May. The deadline of U-Life Programme completion is either 31 December or 31 May.
 

Penalty for Incompletion of U-Life Requirement by the Deadline

Students who fail to complete ANY of the U-Life Programme requirement by the respective deadline may be barred from access to course grades, registration for courses, and adding/dropping courses during the Add/Drop Period until they make up for the U-Life deficiency concerned. Any request for extension of deadline is usually not entertained.

AIOT is designed to be an introduction in promoting academic integrity by increasing your awareness of the issues involved. Using pertinent cases as examples, the tutorial offers suggestions and solutions to help you recognize unethical behaviours, so that you can avoid committing academic misconduct unintentionally.

AIOT (sometimes known as ULIFE 1001) is available on the BU eLearning platform (Moodle).

Deadline


By the end of your 4th semester studying at HKBU (in case of Year 1 entrants) or

By the end of your 3rd semester studying at HKBU (in case of senior-year intakes and top-up degree students) or

Freshmen joining the UOW1, UOW2, and UOW3 as assigned by Academic Registry in mid- to late August should have attended all the UOWs during the orientation period and completed the component of UOWs.

Freshmen who did not join the NSO or missed any of the UOWs during the orientation period have to make up for the UOWs as follows by the deadline.

There will be an in‐person makeup session for students. Students can EITHER attend the makeup session OR follow the instructions below to complete the UOW 2 activity:
 

The make-up consists of three parts. You are required to complete two online activities (Parts 1 and 3) as well as going through at least six virtual checkpoints in Google Earth (Part 2) of the TIE-General, a Trails of Integrity and Ethics (TIE):
 

  • Part 1*: Watch the introduction video in UOW2 Moodle course room. Download and login to the AR Trails app. Finish the online 'Part 1 - Pre-trail Question (AY2024/25)' in AR Trails app

  • Part 2*: Complete 6 out of 11 virtual checkpoints in TIE-General, a Trails of Integrity and Ethics (TIE) in Google Earth, with the AR Trails app. Collect 6 checkpoint codes.

  • Part 3*: Finish ‘Part 3 - Final Checkpoint (AY2024/25)’ – the online Post-trail Question and survey in the AR Trails app
     

Please go to the UOW2 Moodle course room (https://buelearning.hkbu.edu.hk/course/view.php?id=111347) for instructions. The result will be uploaded to the SLES and no other types of make-up activities for UOW2 shall be offered after the deadline for completion.

Requirements

1.  8 CCL units are required to complete for Year 1 entrants

2.  8 CCL units are required to complete for Year 2 entrants

3.  4 CCL units are required to complete for Year 3 entrants and top-up degree students

4.  All new entrants in 2021 or later are required to complete National Security Law Education (course code: NSLE0001)

5.  2 CCL units will be counted after attending the NSLE lecture and obtaining a pass in NSLE0001
 

Deadline

8 units by the end of your 4th semester studying at HKBU (in case of Year 1 entrants) or

8 units by the end of your 3rd semester studying at HKBU (in case of Year 2 entrants) or

4 units by the end of your 3rd semester studying at HKBU (in case of Year 3 entrants and top-up degree students)

CCL offers you an array of out-of-classroom learning opportunities in the forms of seminars, workshops, campus events, and experiential learning activities which all aim to foster your whole person development. You are free to choose plenty of them out of over 600 CCL-recognised activities per year to fulfil the requirement.

Undergraduate students, particularly the freshmen (Year 1 entrants), are encouraged to make good use of the block-out period on Tuesday afternoons of the First Semester to join sufficient CCL activities for completing the requirement on time.

Details of your CCL attendance record and CCL fulfilment status are also available on Student Learning Experience System (SLES).

No. Except the University Orientation Workshops (UOWs) that are designated with a certain time slot for you (i.e. usually in mid- to late August during the orientation period before you formally start your semester at the University), you are free to complete the other U-Life components at your convenience before the deadlines.

The course code of ULIF1005 is merely for blocking a time slot per week for you to freely attend any CCL activities, organised by the Office of Student Affairs, other departments, units or offices, at your own choice and interests in your first semester. There is no designated location for this "class". You are encouraged to make good use of this block-out time slot to complete your CCL requirement as soon as possible.

There are make-up arrangements for the 3 UOWs. Please make up for your absence at the UOWs as instructed on the tab of UOW ► Make-up Arrangements according to your admission year.

No. AIOT has an earlier deadline, while UOWs and CCL have a later deadline. See the specific deadlines of the components and your exact deadlines on Student Learning Experience System (SLES), or MyBU-Study if you are a self-financed top-up degree student of the College of International Education (CIE).

You will be barred from viewing course grades, registration for courses, and adding or dropping course during the Add-Drop Period until you make up for the deficiency concerned. Please note that incompletion of ANY of the U-Life requirement by the respective deadline will result in the above penalty. You have to make up for the deficiency as soon as possible; see the details of the make-up arrangement by clicking the above tabs of AIOT, UOW or CCL.

If you do not complete all the U-Life requirement, you will, of course, cannot graduate from the University.

Students who missed their UOW(s) during the New Student Orientation period will have to do the make-up exercise for the UOW(s) before the deadline. If you receive reminder emails on the make-up of UOW(s), please just follow the instructions to have them completed on time.

Though many U-Life components are online modules, the data transfer of your completion record may take 1 day or more to be effective. Moreover, the record on MyBU-Study (self-financed top-up degree students only) is updated monthly. You may re-visit SLES or MyBU-Study later to check the record out again.

Though many U-Life components are online modules, the data transfer of your completion record usually takes 1 day to be effective. As for CCL activities, the updating of their attendance records is usually not immediate and may take up to 10 working days. In the case of CCL-recognised eCourses organised by Counselling and Development Centre (CDC), Office of Student Affairs (SA) and the BEST online modules organised by Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO), the CCL record is usually updated bi-weekly and may take 2-3 weeks to show.

No worry, they will be counted as fulfilling the U-Life requirements even though they are recorded or completed later than the deadline.
