The Tencent Charity Foundation (騰訊公益慈善基金會) launched the Tencent for Good Scholarship in the 2024-25 academic year, aimed at inspiring more young people to engage in philanthropic activities and fostering a culture of goodwill.

For the academic year 2025-26, up to 15 awards of HK$20,000 each will be awarded to HKBU students who actively participate in social service or voluntary work.

ELIGIBILITY 

The Scholarship is awarded to local and non-local full-time Year 2 or above undergraduate students who -

  1. Have attained a cumulative GPA (cGPA) score of 2.70 or above by the end of Semester 1 of the 2025-26 academic year;
  2. Have completed a minimum of 30 hours of social services or voluntary work1 from 1 January 2025 to 28 February 2026 with valid supporting documents2; and
  3. Submit a creative short video with NO restrictions on theme, showcasing their project outcomes, personal growth and social impact. *Bonus Tip: Video gained wide spread or response on social media*     

            The video should follow the following specifications:    

  • The duration of the video should not exceed 3 minutes.
  • The language used in the video is not restricted, but it must include both Chinese and English subtitles.
  • The video should be submitted in AVI, MOV, MP4, or MPG format, with a minimum resolution of 1920 x 1080.
  • Please upload the completed video to YouTube, set the visibility as “unlisted”, and provide the YouTube link in the space in the application form.

IMPORTANT
Please make sure that you’ve obtained the consent of all participants in the video, as the video will be viewed by the general public on the YouTube channel or other publication channels of HKBU and/or Donor.

Remarks:

  1. At the time of application, applicants must have completed at least 30 hours of social service/voluntary work organized by local or overseas registered charitable organizations or by various departments or units in HKBU (透過本地或海外註冊的慈善社福組織/社企/團體或大學各部門舉辦的慈善義務活動), in the previous 1 year, i.e. from 1 January 2025 to 28 February 2026 and provide the valid supporting documents.
  2. The supporting documents can be a letter written by the organizer (由主辦單位負責人發出的正式信件) or a participation certificate (參與/出席/完成證書). It must state the number of hours (證明文件必須註明服務時數). Supplementary information, such as promotional materials and websites that indicate the number of service hours required for satisfactory completion of a service, will also be considered. Otherwise, this social service/voluntary work will NOT be counted.

    If you do not have the supporting documents now, please urgently ask the organizer to issue the proof for you and state the number of hours. Kindly submit it/them together with the application form.


APPLICATION

Application deadline: 5:30pm, 31 March 2026 (Tuesday).

  2. The form is fillable. Please TYPE in the form. Hand-written is not preferred.
  3. Combine your signed form and all copies of valid supporting documents into ONE PDF file. Name your PDF file in the format of "Tencent_student ID_full name" (e.g. Tencent_24201111_Chan Tai Man). We may not be able to identify your submission if you do not name your file as instructed.
  4. Please make sure all scanned documents are clear and legible. Any parts that are missing, unclear, and incomprehensible will NOT be considered.
  5. You may not need to scan the documents in the highest/top quality if standard quality suffice. Your PDF file should NOT exceed 25MB.
  6. Login to our “Documents Upload Platform” at https://sfa.hkbu.edu.hk/supporting_docs/ with your SSOid. Choose and click “Tencent For Good Scholarship 2025-26” in the menu to upload the documents. We will NOT be able to receive your documents if you choose another scheme, so please click the scheme name carefully. The “Documents Upload Platform” will close automatically at the application deadline 5:30 pm of 31 March 2026 (Tuesday). You will receive an auto-email from the system upon successful upload of your PDF file.
  7. To avoid being late, you should upload your PDF well before the deadline, as there may be unexpected technical errors/difficulties that require you extra time to solve. Note that the submission time is subject to our system’s clock on the website, which may or may not be the same as your watch, and the Office of Student Affairs has the discretion to make final judgments on whether the application is considered late.
  8. Partial submissions / late applications will NOT be considered.  Form submission via hardcopy or email is not accepted.


SELECTION

  1. The selection will mainly base on applicants’ active participation in social service/voluntary work, social charitable innovation and advocation (慈善義務工作、社會公益創新及倡議工作參與度).  Academic merits will also be considered.
  2. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview with HKBU staff and the Donor’s representative(s) (if invited) in around May/June 2026.


CONDITIONS OF THE AWARDS

  1. Applicants are required to candidly reveal any and all criminal records they may possess throughout the application procedure.
  2. If an awarded student engages in any criminal activities or behaves in a manner detrimental to the reputation of the University or the sponsor of the scholarship following the receipt of the award, the University reserves the right to rescind their award and reclaim any scholarships that have been granted.
  3. All awarded students are required to attend and give a sharing in the Scholarship Presentation Ceremony and other relevant occasions when invited.
  4. The University and Tencent Charity Foundation have the right to share the videos submitted by the awardees, as well as their stories and reflections, across their respective platforms. This is to encourage the public to actively participate in charity activities and set good examples.
  5. All awarded students are required to sign an undertaking form to indicate their understanding and acceptance of the above-mentioned terms and conditions.
