Scholarships

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government has established the Endeavour Merit Award (EMA) to give recognition to deserving post-secondary students with special educational needs (SSEN) in the pursuit of excellence in academic and other areas.

For the 2024-25 academic year, up to 15 EMA of HK$15,000 each will be available for eligible HKBU students.

 

ELIGIBILITY

1. Full-time HKBU students studying publicly-funded degree or above level programmes  (exchange students not studying a full degree or above programme in Hong Kong are not included), with special educational needs (SEN) as below:

  • Specific learning difficulties
  • Intellectual disability
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder
  • Physical disability
  • Visual impairment
  • Hearing impairment
  • Speech and language impairment
  • Others

Note: Students enrolled in Dual/Joint Bachelor’s Degree Programmes are NOT eligible for receiving any government scholarships including EMA during the period of their offshore studies in the overseas partner institutions.

2. An SSEN may only be awarded either the HKSAR Government Scholarship or the EMA in each academic year, but he/she may be awarded other scholarships/awards under the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund, such as TDS and ROA in the same academic year.

3. An SSEN may be awarded the EMA more than once throughout his/her studies, and each application shall be considered based on individual merit and against other applications received in that year.

4. The Award receives a joint application with the HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship (AGS). Please view the application eligibility of AGS at HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship (AGS) 2024-25 (Deadline: 24 January 2025). Eligible applicants will be considered for both EMA and AGS through one application.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Applications will be assessed on the basis of the followings:

  • Good academic standing: cGPA must be 2.50 or above after the first semester of 2024-25;
  • Outstanding record of extra-curricular activities;
  • Active participation in community and voluntary services.

2. Preference will be given to local students and eligible applicants who have never received EMA before.

  1. Get ready a set of supporting documents in PDF, including the followings: 
  • Medical proof of your disability/ SEN
  • Certificates/ Attendance of Extra-curricular Activities (past three years, up to six items)
  • Certificates/ Attendance of Community Services & Internships (past three years, up to six items)
  • Certificates/ Attendance of Awards & Achievements (past three years, up to six items)

2.   Name your PDF file in the format of "AGS_EMA_student ID" (e.g. AGS_EMA_20221111). The PDF file should not exceed 50MB. It is to be submitted at the end of the application form.

NOTES

  • The application form will close at 11:59pm on 24 January 2025 (Friday).
  • Incomplete or late online submissions will not be considered.
  • The Award/ Scholarship application results will be announced by February 2025.
