The Student Residence Halls are recruiting Hall Tutors and Non-local Mentors for the Residential Year 2026-2027.

We are searching for student leaders committed to work with us on maintaining the Student Residence Halls as a safe, warm and supportive living-learning environment. Hall Tutors and Non-local Mentors will receive pre-service and on-the-job communication and skills training, as well as mentorship on personal development. Hall Tutors will be provided with free accommodation.

Eligibility

  • All UGC-funded full-time HKBU Undergraduate Students who will continue their studies for the entire Academic Year 2026-27 with good academic performance are welcome. 

  • Do NOT apply if you intend to apply for exchange or leave of absence (e.g. full-time internship) for a semester.
    Student must possess a student status of “Normal Study” as defined by the Academic Registry at the time of application (except students who are currently on exchange or internship) and during the appointment period. Student who ceases to be classified as “Normal Study” will no longer be eligible for being a Hall Tutor or Non-local Mentor and will be required to check out of the Halls.

  • Hall Tutors and Non-local Mentors will begin their engagements in late July and early August 2026 respectively. Most of the engagements and training sessions will be conducted face-to-face in Hong Kong. While individual halls may offer exemptions or alternative arrangements at their discretion, please take into account your other commitments and activities during the summer break. You may wish to consult with your preferred hall before applying.

Important Notes before Application

  1. Students can submit ONLY ONE application, choosing EITHER the Hall Tutor/Non-local Mentor position in Student Residence Halls (SRH) OR the College Peer Mentor positions in Village CARE.
    Please note that Non-local Mentors in SRH and College Peer Mentors in Village CARE are 2 different positions. You are strongly advised to carefully consider both options before submitting your application.


  2. Concurrent Participation in the Local and Non-local Pairing Scheme (for Hall Tutors applicants only)
    Students who plan to apply for the Local and Non-local Pairing Scheme are advised to inform their paired student(s) if they also intend to apply for the Hall Tutor position in SRH. Accepting the offer of a Hall Tutor position will result in the Student Accommodation Management Office stopping the processing of the pair's application and the pairing application would be considered unsuccessful.

  3. Each student can fill in the form ONCE only. 
    You will NOT be able to amend or re-submit another application once you have completed the application. Make sure all documents are ready before beginning the application.

      4.  Mid-term Evaluation

A 360-degree performance evaluation shall be completed at the end of Semester 1 by the Resident Master, peers and staff from Hall Administration Team. Resident Master holds the decision on the continuation or termination of the appointment. 

      5.  For Hall Tutors: Successful Hall Tutor candidates will be offered a rent-free room of single occupancy. 

Hall Tutors maybe required to reside in a double room of single occupancy with a shared bathroom to facilitate residents who are wheelchair users residing on the floor. All room allocations will be subject to the arrangement of the Student Residence Hall and the Student Accommodation Section.

Being a Role Model to Residents

  • To serve as a role model of fellow residents and abide by the University’s Standard Code of Conduct, Terms and Conditions of Hall Residence, Hall Rules and Regulations and Residents’ Code being in force;
  • To exhort residents to comply with hall rules and regulations and report any irregularities in residents’ behaviors to the respective Senior Residential Life Officer (SRLO)/ Resident Master (RM);

Maintaining a Supportive Environment

  • To motivate residents to maintain a harmonious and congenial relationship among themselves and promote integration and inclusion among residents;

Supporting and Caring to Residents

  • To monitor the well-being and disciplines of fellow residents, especially those of the same floor;
  • To take care of residents of the same floor;

Handling Residents and Floor Issues

  • To take lead in resolving minor conflicts and disputes among residents;

Engagement in Hall Life

  • To record residents’ participation in hall life activities and gather feedback from them;
  • To encourage residents’ involvement and participation in hall and university-wide activities to enhance their attributes and personal growth;

Communication with Hall Management and Other Administrative Duties

  • To enhance the communication between the hall management and residents at large by helping to collect and reflect residents’ views and opinions promptly and accurately. Also, to explain to them decisions or conclusions made by relevant committees and consultative groups as well as the rationales and good causes behind those decisions;
  • To attend and participate in regular meetings with respective RM and/or SRLO to keep up with current issues and concerns;
  • To assist in other duties as assigned by the SRLO, Hall Office and RM.
  • To serve as a role model of fellow residents and abide by the University’s Standard Code of Conduct, Terms and Conditions of Hall Residence, Hall Rules and Regulations and Residents Code being in force;
  • To collaborate with Hall Tutors/ Resident Tutors and update them on any irregularities in residents’ behaviours;
  • To provide support and care to non-local residents regarding to their well-being in the Halls and in the University;
  • To encourage non-local students’ involvement and participation in hall and university-wide activities for better inclusion in the university community and personal growth;
  • To facilitate integration and inclusion between local and non-local residents in the Halls;
  • To assist in the implementation of non-local students related activities;
  • To attend and participate in regular meetings with respective RM and/or SRLO to keep up with current issues and concerns;
  • To assist in other duties as assigned by the RM and/or SRLO.

  • Information of ONE Referee
    The name, position, your relation and email address of ONE referee, who MUST be a HKBU staff (except College Masters, College Fellows, Resident Masters and staff from Student Accommodation Section, SA).

    Seek the consent of the referee in advance. Individual Halls may approach your nominated referee, without further seeking your confirmation, anytime during the selection process.

  • 2-min Self Introduction Video in English
    In the video, share with your preferred Hall about your reasons and aspirations of taking up Hall Tutor and/or Non-local Mentor position. Your video shall be limited to 2 minutes. Your video file shall NOT exceed 10MB.

  • Your CV (in pdf format)
    Your resume should be able to highlight your skills matching with the roles and duties of student leaders. A sample could be downloaded here (SSOID login required; the file is in word format and you are free to edit), although you are encouraged to develop a resume on your own.

  • Your Complete Academic Results (in pdf format)
    Unofficial transcript extracted from BUniPort or screen captures via HKBU Mobile app are acceptable. Please consolidate all screen captures into one file before uploading the file to the system.
