The three-year project reached out to nearly 300 elderly individuals, with 150 students forming Buddy Teams that engaged with socially active seniors and made regular visits to frail elderly residents. More than 550 carefully curated thematic care packs and 170 home improvement items tailored to individual needs have been delivered to elderly residents in our neighborhood. Some have received replacements for worn-out appliances, while others have benefited from new items such as water boilers, exhaust fans, and televisions. The elderly have expressed heartfelt gratitude for this generous and timely support, which has greatly enhanced their quality of life.
In 2024, the team was recognized as the 'Outstanding Volunteer Team' by the Social Welfare Department.
The four-year project reached out to nearly 300 elderly individuals with the support of 400 students. In addition to visiting the elderly regularly and preparing carefully selected care packs, the project encouraged the elderly to connect with the community through a series of interest-based workshops and social events. More than 20 outings were arranged, including a two-day tour to Macau. As the project spanned the time of the COVID outbreak, new technology was deployed to facilitate the services, including showing care through Zoom interviews. An internship on brain health that included a series of interventions focused on detecting and minimizing dementia was also introduced.
