(TPg Election & BUS & SCI By-election)

Besides joining various extra-curricular activities on campus, many students are concerned about the academic development of the University. Have you thought of having a direct channel to reflect your views to the senior management? Participating in the Senate might be one of the formal ways! It is important to have students’ voice in the Senate. You may achieve these by running in the Election of Student Members to the Senate 2021/2022 (TPg Election & BUS & SCI By-election).

The Senate is the highest authority on all academic related matters of the University. Its powers and duties include:

  • Promoting and providing guidance for the development of academic programmes and courses;
  • Promoting and regulating teaching, learning and research activities;
  • Making regulations on various academic affairs, including admission, promotion, registration, graduation and residence of students; and
  • Deciding on matters affecting the welfare and discipline of students.
     

What is Senate?
The Senate is the supreme academic body of the University. It oversees the University’s academic development, teaching and learning, conferment of degrees as well as the welfare and discipline of students.
 

Who represents students in the Senate?
There are 12 student members in the Senate, including:

  • President of the Students’ Union (ex-officio);
  • President of the Postgraduate Association (ex-officio);
  • 8 undergraduates, elected from each Faculty/School/AVA; and
  • Two postgraduates (One from taught programmes and one from research programmes).

Student members have their voices heard in the University policy making process by attending the meetings of the Senate and its sub-committees.

Election of Student Members to the Senate 2021/2022 (TPg Election & BUS & SCI By-election)

You are cordially invited to participate in the Election of Student Members to the Senate 2021/2022 (TPg Election & BUS & SCI By-election). Two undergraduate members from School of Business & Faculty of Science and the representative from Taught Postgraduate Programmes would be elected in this Election. The members’ term of office will commence on 26 October 2021 to 31 August 2022.

Undergraduates
You may fill in the online nomination form and secure the support of ONE proposer and 10 seconders from your respective Faculty/School.

Postgraduates
You may fill in the online nomination form and secure the support of ONE proposer and TWO seconders who are postgraduates.

The important dates of the Election are:

Nomination Period
15 September to 28 September 2021 

Publicity Period
1 October to 18 October 2021

Election Period
20 October (10:00 a.m.) to 23 October 2021 (5:00 p.m.)
