[Cultural Ambassador Programme] Celebration of Bengali New Year 1430

On the 12th of April 2023, the Bengali community at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) celebrated the Bengali New Year 1430. This was the first Bengali event at HKBU, which attracted over 50 participants. The event was filled with dancing performances, singing performances, and cultural food.

The Bengali New Year, also known as Pohela Boishakh, is a significant cultural celebration for Bengalis all over the world. It marks the beginning of the Bengali calendar and is celebrated on the 14th or 15th of April every year. The celebration is a symbol of hope, new beginnings, and prosperity. The festivities usually include cultural programs, delicious food, and colorful decorations.

The event at HKBU was no different. Participants were dressed in vibrant traditional attire, with women wearing sarees and men wearing Panjabis. The highlight of the event was the cultural food that was served. Bengali cuisine is known for its rich flavors and unique spices, and the participants at HKBU were treated to a variety of dishes including Tehari, Firni, Kalojam, Pantua, Jilapi, Fuchka, Chotpoti, Jhalmuri, Chana Boot and Badam Doodh. As part of the cultural experiences, there were also various games and henna booths.

The event was a huge success and brought the Bengali community at HKBU closer together. It was an opportunity for everyone to celebrate and showcase their culture and traditions. The event also served as a platform for non-Bengali students to learn more about the Bengali culture and appreciate its beauty.
