Student-led Societies and Projects Promoting Sustainability

HKBU students are committed to building a more sustainable society and actively taking steps to combat climate change. Through various student-led societies and projects, we strive to make a positive impact on the environment and promote sustainability within the community.

Recube is a startup co-founded by a HKBU student providing reusable tableware borrowing service. By embracing the concept of reusing tableware, ReCube aims to foster a triple-win scenario: it offers convenience to diners, brings financial benefits to restaurants, and contributes to environmental sustainability.

PEARL is a sustainable fashion and eco-tourism start-up founded by two Filipino students from HKBU in 2024.

After a year of preparation, PEARL launched its first Sustainable Fashion and Cultural Tour to the Philippines, with the goal of introducing the HKBU community to traditional and sustainable clothing made from pineapple and banana leaves.

Snapshots for Change

The project, launched by two social work students, aims to raise awareness about plastic pollution and sustainable development among HKBU, cultivating a sense of responsibility for environmental conservation within the community. By organising workshops on Ooho edible water bottles and leading eco-walk at beaches, these initiatives aim to reduce plastic consumption and encourage students to embrace sustainable practices in their daily lives.

The project is initiated by Kew, who is passionate about promoting green living among fellow students. By establishing a community rooftop garden at the Undergraduate Halls, Kew aims to inspire more students to adopt a sustainable lifestyle and bring farm-to-table concepts to life.

University YMCA (Hong Kong Baptist University) was founded in 2003 and is the first University YMCA in Hong Kong. It strives to promote the holistic development of students' body, mind, and spirit. Every year, Uni-Y(HKBU) organizes various activities aimed at encouraging students to engage in environmental protection and sustainability efforts.

Established in 1986, AIESEC at HKBU provides personal and social development opportunities for student leaders, equipping them with practical skills to make a positive impact in the community. Every year, AIESEC organizes the Youth to Sustainability Summit for Form 5 and 6 students, fostering engagement with sustainability issues. Additionally, it offers global volunteering programmes and social innovation challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to shape future leaders with keen concern to society.

Model United Nations (MUN) is an authentic simulation of the United Nations (UN) committee structure, where students assume the roles of United Nations member states to discuss and develop resolutions for issues of international scope and importance. Every year, members of HKBU MUN Club get opportunities to receive professional training on a range of global topics, including climate change, international trade and justice, before taking part in international MUN Conferences.
