Recipient of Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association Admission Scholarship Scheme for Outstanding South and South East Asian Ethnic Minority Students (EMSS) 2018/19
My first year at HKBU has been exciting and dynamic. I feel extremely lucky to serve as an EMSS cultural ambassador on campus where we're getting opportunities to promote and share our culture with different other cultural backgrounds.
I am honored to receive the EMSS scholarship, since education to me is an asset, the value of which only appreciates with time. Throughout my life, I have had the desire and vision to be successful in life. This has seeded into a lot of ideas but materializing and nurturing these ideas require knowledge. Being an EMSS awardee, this scholarship means a lot, as I consider this as a stepping-stone to achieving heights in my career. It is also a great help in managing the challenging course requirements, and the expenses of internships, which requires unanticipated travel. It has also made my decision much easier for overseas internship as I don’t have to be financially concerned. I greatly appreciate the support on my academic goals that the scholarship is offering and would highly encourage any other enthusiastic ethnic minority students to apply for this wonderful scholarship available through their heritage.
Being active in volunteer activities in different organizations has helped me with the communication skills, knowledge, and life experience. I got opportunities to meet people of different ethnic minority backgrounds. I also got to know that even now some ethnic minorities residing in HK are facing various problems. Likewise, I got involved in different volunteer organizations where I was able to help the ethnic minorities there. Furthermore, through the skills that I learned, I was also able to organize a multi-cultural event at HKBU. As being a cultural ambassador on campus, I feel like it's my mission to promote the ethnic minorities to society.
As a youth and ethnic minority in Hong Kong, what I hope for is essentially our participation, voice and involvement to be valued. Likewise, I want to get involved in different organizations to give back to the community and raise the voice for the ethnic minorities.
