[Direct Studies]

Throughout the online music cognition course, I gained a deeper understanding of how the human mind perceives and processes music, which is the most significant objective I aim for. The course covered a wide range of topics, including pitch perception, rhythm, and the emotional impact of music. Also, it covered a myriad of music psychology topics ranging from music and emotion, music and memory, to music marketing. The knowledge acquired is highly conducive to my future learning and career.

Although it was an online course, the interaction between tutors and classmates was omnipresent by means of discussion forums and live lesson sessions, which is beyond my expectation. I am grateful to be connected with classmates from all walks, like music teachers and businessmen. Under this circumstance, we all could learn from each other and realized the universal nature of music from a scientific perspective. It was, hence, a wonderful learning experience. As a student who wants to develop in the discipline of medical ethnomusicology, having learned how to read a music psychology paper and acquiring the ability to distinguish between good and bad studies are the most treasured takeaways of the course.

At the beginning of the class, I was unconfident that I could excel in the course, given that the course content was difficult to understand. However, our tutor encouraged every one of us that the course content was in fact graduate level, and as long as took endeavor to complete the coursework and read more papers. Eventually, I scored an A in the course, and my tutor highly appreciated my research interest on the combination of music psychology and Indian Raga-rasa music philosophy. He left his personal contact to me after the course. This leaves a potential cooperation opportunity or at least an advisor for me in the future.
