TANG Tik Man, Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Translation

I am delighted to have had the opportunity to study a summer course in London, and I  am proud to say that I have achieved my learning objectives. Specifically, I aimed to gain knowledge about advertising and PR, and I feel that I have accomplished this goal.

In the advertising component of the course, I learned about the critical importance of understanding one's target audience and crafting a compelling message. Our instructor stressed the idea that truth is the most effective way to connect with people, and we focused on the art of storytelling in advertising. This approach was eye-opening, and I feel that I have gained valuable skills and insights that will serve me well in the future.

The PR component of the course was equally enlightening. I discovered that a company's   image is of utmost importance, and learned about the critical role that PR plays in shaping and managing that image. During our course, we had the opportunity to examine a real-life crisis involving BBC personality Huw Edwards and his inappropriate behavior. This experience provided us with a firsthand look at how companies manage crises, further highlighting the importance of PR.

As part of our coursework, each of us had to deliver a news presentation every Wednesday and Thursday, sharing stories from our home countries and from the U.K. To prepare for these presentations, I scoured a variety of news sources, including SCMP and BBC.

Finally, I am pleased to report that I was able to make the most of the grant amount provided for the course. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow through this experience.
