Joint University Barrier-free Discovery Tour (Taiwan) Banner

The Joint-U Barrier-free Discovery Tour, co-organized by HKBU and HKUST, enables students to experience inclusiveness and accessibility in Taiwan. Successful applicants get a chance to attend training before departure, join a 5-day-4-night tour in Taipei and take part in an audio description project to share their work with the university and wider communities.

Highlights of the Tour in Taipei

*The arrangement of tour activities is subject to the actual situation (e.g. weather, transportation, etc.).

Eligibility (meeting ALL requirements below)

  • Current full-time HKBU students studying UGC-funded undergraduate programmes
  • Students declared with SEN or ISAs
  • Aged over 18 by the time of travel
  • Holder of a valid passport that is allowed to enter Taiwan with validity till 31 January 2024

*Priority will be given to those with good command of spoken Putonghua.

Coverage of the Tour

  • Roundtrip group air-ticket between Hong Kong and Taipei (standard economy class), taxes and surcharges
  • Hotel accommodation in Taipei (2 participants of the same gender will share a room)
  • Local shuttle bus service in Taiwan
  • Breakfast, lunch on all days of the Tour and at least one dinner
  • Programme fees, admission tickets and tour guide service charges
  • Student travel insurance provided by the University (please purchase separate plans if extra protection is needed.)

*Other expenditures not mentioned above are at the participants’ own expense.

Tour fee

Nil (A refundable deposit of HK$2,500 will be collected upon confirmation of offer acceptance. Deposit will be refunded to participants who complete all the components of the Tour and fulfill the required obligations.)

Notes to Applicants

  • The Organizers reserve the right to decline any participant whose health conditions are perceived as interfering with the safety of the individual or the group. In that case, the participant should bear the consequential costs of any risks that may be created, directly or indirectly.
  • For the case of traveling with a care-giver, s/he shall be responsible for his/her own traveling expenses & liability.
  • Participants must depart from and return to Hong Kong as a team on assigned dates of the Tour. The Organizers will not certify the completion of Tour to the participants who withdraw from the Tour, which will result in no refund of the deposit.
  • Terms and conditions of the travel insurance provided by the University are available here (Menu bar “Students” > “Insurance for students” > “Standard Cover Provided by the University” > “Personal Overseas Trips Insurance Summary - Student Only - (Zurich: TTT0001125ZC)”). Please purchase separate insurance plan if extra protection is needed.

Application and document

1. Please submit the application form by 5:30 pm on 1 March 2023 (Wed) / 5:30 pm on 8 March 2023 (Wed) - for ISAs.

2. Undertaking for successful applicants will be submitted upon offer.
