The Scholarship was set up with donations raised by the Village CARE Campaign. A group of HKBU alumni pledged a sum donation to support students with special educational needs (SSEN). The Scholarship represents a way to show the alumni’s gratitude to their alma mater, encouraging the next generation of students to thrive in their own way.
For the 2025-26 academic year, up to 10 AGS of HK$15,000 each will be available to recognize the SSEN in pursuit of excellence in academic, non-academic merits and improvement in academic performance.
1. Full-time HKBU students studying publicly-funded degree or above level programmes (exchange students not studying a full degree or above programme in Hong Kong are not included), registered with special educational needs (SEN) as below:
2. An SSEN may be awarded the AGS more than once throughout his/her studies, and each application shall be considered based on individual merit and against other applications received in that year.
3. The AGS is available for joint application with the HKSAR Government Endeavour Merit Award (EMA). Please view the application eligibility of EMA at https://sa.hkbu.edu.hk/en/sfa/news-announcement/HKSAR-Government-Endeavour-Merit-Award-2025-26. Eligible applicants will be considered for either EMA or AGS through one application.

4. Each student should submit the application form once only. No amendments can be made after submission. Therefore, please check carefully before submission.
5. You will receive an auto-email from the system upon successful submission. If no auto-email is received within 10 minutes, the form submission may be unsuccessful and applicants should inform the SFA unit via email at scholarship@hkbu.edu.hk.

2. To avoid being late, you should submit your online application well before the deadline, as there may be unexpected technical errors/difficulties that require extra time to solve. Note that the submission time is subject to our system’s clock on the website, which may or may not be the same as your watch, and the Office of Student Affairs has the discretion to make final judgments on whether the application is considered late.

It is my honour to receive the HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship, and I am grateful to the alumni donors for this incredible support. Your generosity helped me to get through financial difficulties in university life such as buying a new digital device and paying a part of the tuition fee.
With the support of this scholarship, I was able to purchase an iPad keyboard, significantly enhancing the quality of my studies. I now enjoy researching more comfortably and efficiently, thanks to the ease of typing rather than tapping on a screen. Beyond academics, the relief from tuition stress has made me more effective in my studies and even helped me enter a flow state more easily while playing the piano.

The scholarship has allowed me to access essential resources, including therapy sessions, medication, and academic support tools such as tutoring and assistive technology. For example, I can have a consultation with Clinical Therapy when I need help more frequently and having medical serving in private clinic for better and shorter follow-up consultation. Additionally, the financial relief reduced my stress about tuition fees, allowing me to focus more on my studies.
With this support, I believe that my academic performance has improved so how and is on the right track. This semester, my attendance rate increased compare with last semester because I felt more motivated, and I hope this can also help me increasing my GPA.
