TANG Po Chai, Bachelor of Communication (Hons.) in Public Relations and Advertising Public Relations
Receiving the HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship has been a defining moment in my university journey as a student with special educational needs (SEN). The financial support directly addressed a long‑standing barrier in my daily learning.
I used the scholarship to purchase a new laptop. Previously, I relied on a tablet and often had to borrow library computers. The new laptop provides a stable, SEN‑friendly environment where I can access notes, write assignments, and organise my study materials anytime, without technical interruptions.
The difference has been immediate. My coursework submissions became more punctual. More importantly, the laptop reduced my daily stress, allowing me to focus on understanding concepts rather than struggling with devices. I also regained time previously spent on troubleshooting, which I now use for rest, self‑care, and managing my mental health.
As a Public Relations student, group presentations and team projects are central to my learning. The new laptop has greatly enhanced my productivity in these collaborative tasks. I can now efficiently edit shared documents, co‑create presentation slides, and conduct real‑time research during group discussions without compatibility issues. This has made me a more reliable teammate and improved the quality of our campaign pitches and client reports.
This scholarship has shown me how the right tools can level the playing field. Looking ahead, I plan to invest in AI‑powered real‑time transcription tools for both my remaining studies and future workplace. I hope to advocate for SEN‑friendly technologies in corporate settings. The scholarship also frees me from excessive part‑time work, giving me mental space to pursue an internship this summer or an exchange in 2026.
I am deeply grateful to the donors and the SEN Support Unit. Your belief in me fuels my determination to graduate with excellence and, one day, support other SEN students and employees in the same generous way.
