Eligibility for Student Residence

Please read the General Information carefully and thoroughly before you submit your student residence application. 

A. Housing Policy

University Grants Committee (UGC)-funded full-time local undergraduate students will have the opportunity to experience one year of hostel life in University accommodation during their studies at the University. Please click HERE for Housing Policy.

B. Student Status

Students must possess a student status of “Normal Study” as defined by the Academic Registry during the stay in the University Accommodation.  You may check your student status in BUniPort > Profile > Personal Particulars & Study Record. Students who cease to be classified as “Normal Study” (e.g. taking an internship, suspension of study or leave of absence) will no longer be eligible for University Accommodation and will be required to check out of the Student Residence.

C. GPA Requirements for Residential Year 2026-27

i. Students who obtained a semester GPA below 1.67 in the immediate past semester:

a. For students who have checked in, they will be asked to check out from the Student Residence.

b. For students who have not yet checked in, their student residence offer will be revoked.

c. Students with special circumstances may appeal on the decision by submitting a written appeal stating the justifications to the respective Resident Masters/College Masters.

Successful Returning Student Residence applicants for Residential Year 2026/27 are to be offered residential places for the period below:

Residential Period: 26 August 2026* to 20 May 2027, both nights inclusive

 

*The actual check-in date may be adjusted. Should there be any changes in the check-in date, we will notify the successful applicants as soon as possible.

Residents who are confirmed to go on exchange study in the Second Semester OR do not pay the Student Residence fees for the Second Semester will be adjusted their residential period to First Semester only and are required to check out by 12 noon on 23 Dec 2026.

Requests for early check-in or late check-out will NOT be considered.

Student Residence offer will be recovered for students who fail to pay the Student Residence fees on time or check in within 7 days from the first day of the Student Residence offer period, and they will be deemed to have already stayed in the Student Residence during the offer period in their future Student Residence applications.

Application Period : 18 March, 12 noon to 31 March 2026, 23:59 (HK Time)

Late applications will NOT be accepted!

Change of Student Residence application information is allowed before the application deadline.

An acknowledgement email will be sent to you shortly after you have successfully submitted or edited the Student Residence application. If you do not receive the acknowledgment email, please contact the Student Accommodation Section as soon as possible.

For students with financial difficulties, please contact us via email (accm_ug@hkbu.edu.hk) before the lodging fee due date.

To provide structured and sufficient incentives for students to proactively build connections that integrate local and non-local students into residential life, a pairing pilot scheme of local and non-local students as roommates has been introduced from the 2024/25 Residential Year. We are pleased to announce that the pairing scheme of local and non-local students as roommates will continue for the 2026/27 Residential Year.

1)     The pairing scheme is applicable to both 2-person or 3-person room of Student Residence Halls and 2-person room of Village CARE.

2)     If the number of applicants for the Pairing Scheme is higher than the quota, applicants' student residence admission marks would be taken into account when deciding the priority.

3)     Students who apply without successfully indicating a paired roommate will not be considered.

4)     Students shall indicate each other in the application form with the Student number(s) and name(s) of the paired roommates must be inputted in the section below:

5)     Forms with missing information will NOT be processed.

6)     If the student residence applications of all the paired students are successful, they are expected to accept the student residence offer and pay the fees accordingly. Student residence offers would be voided if any one of the students declines the student residence offer.

7)     The result of the pairing scheme would be announced in May 2026.

8)     Residents under the Scheme are required to attend specific integration activities organized by the Office of Student Affairs. They are required to provide legitimate reasons for any absences from these mandatory activities.

9)     Staff from the Student Accommodation Section will pay regular visits to the paired residents who are admitted under the Scheme.

10)     Request for room change among paired roommates would not be considered.

Note
  1. Based on the travelling time between the dwelling place of parents and the Student Residence, as provided by the HKeMobility of the Transport Department. Provision of false/inaccurate home address information may lead to disqualification of Student Residence application and recovery of student accommodation offered.
  2. Successful Student Residence applicants will be deemed to have resided in the Student Residence during the offer period.
  3. Information to be provided by the Office of Student Affairs and SPEH Department.
  4. The Resident Master and Residential Life Officer will be responsible for marking for applicants residing in the Student Residence in the immediate past year based on their attributes.
  5. The College Master and College Fellow will be responsible for marking for applicants residing in the Student Residence in the immediate past year based on their attributes.
  6. Student Residence applicants with the following semester GPA in their immediate past semester will be awarded extra admission marks:
    Semester GPA of 2.20 – 2.49, extra 2 marks will be awarded
    Semester GPA of 2.50 – 2.99, extra 4 marks will be awarded
    Semester GPA of 3.00 – 3.39, extra 7 marks will be awarded
    Semester GPA of 3.40 – 4.00, extra 10 marks will be awarded

Student residence application results will be announced via email notification as scheduled below:

Non-local Students: 4 May 2026, 6pm*
Local Students: 12 June 2026, 6pm*

*tentative date subject to change

Successful student residence applicants should view their student residence allocation and room type assignment HERE. Room assignment are made by individual Halls/Residential College and will be announced HERE in early August 2026.

Student Residence Fees for students with Full Year student residence offer are to be paid by approximately two equal installments and are NOT transferable or refundable.

* In addition to Lodging Fees, all residents need to pay Caution Money ($1,000) and other miscellaneous fees as appropriate. For details, click here.
* All Village CARE residents will be charged a $400 Residential Programme Fee per Semester.
* All Student Residence Halls residents will be charged a $200 Residential Programme Fee per Semester.
* Residents should pay for the In-room utilities on a user-pay principle.  In-room utilities include air conditioning, refrigerators, water heater and power socket.  Lights and water are provided without charge.  The utility fee is $1.4 per kWh. Octopus Card is used for charging up in-room utilities.

Deferred payment of Student Residence Fees is not acceptable. Subject to special prior approval, a penalty of $500 will be levied on students who pay the Student Residence Fees after deadline.

during your payment process. Direct transfer of money to University bank account is NOT considered as successful payment. You should keep good custody of the payment record and be able to present it upon request.

Applicants on the waiting list and unsuccessful applicants may submit a Student Residence Appeal Application by the following deadlines:

  1. Non-local Students: 11 May 2026, 6pm
  2. Local Students: 19 June 2026, 6pm
