HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship (AGS) 2025-26
The Scholarship was set up with donations raised by the Village CARE Campaign. A group of HKBU alumni pledged a sum donation to support students with special educational needs (SSEN). The Scholarship represents a way to show the alumni’s gratitude to their alma mater, encouraging the next generation of students to thrive in their own way.
For the 2025-26 academic year, up to 10 AGS of HK$15,000 each will be available to recognize the SSEN in pursuit of excellence in academic, non-academic merits and improvement in academic performance.
Eligibility
1. Full-time HKBU students studying publicly-funded degree or above level programmes (exchange students not studying a full degree or above programme in Hong Kong are not included), registered with special educational needs (SEN) as below:
- Attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder
- Autism spectrum disorders
- Hearing impairment
- Mental illness
- Physical disability
- Specific learning difficulties
- Speech impairment
- Chronic illness and visceral disability
- Visual impairment
- Others
2. An SSEN may be awarded the AGS more than once throughout his/her studies, and each application shall be considered based on individual merit and against other applications received in that year.
3. The AGS is available for joint application with the HKSAR Government Endeavour Merit Award (EMA). Please view the application eligibility of EMA at https://sa.hkbu.edu.hk/en/sfa/news-announcement/HKSAR-Government-Endeavour-Merit-Award-2025-26. Eligible applicants will be considered for either EMA or AGS through one application.

Criteria
1. Applications will be assessed on the basis of the followings:
- Good academic standing: cGPA must be 2.50 or above after the first semester of 2025-26 academic year;
- Outstanding record of extra-curricular activities; and
- Active participation in service-learning activities, internships, and enthusiastic in community services.
2. Preference will be given to eligible applicants who have never received AGS or any SEN related funding support before.
Scholarship Amount
Scholarship recipients wil receive $ 15,000.
University application deadline: 5:30 pm of 16 January 2026 (Friday).

Please note the following when you submit your application:
1. Prepare the following supporting documents in ONE PDF file:
- Medical proof of your disability/ SEN
- Certificates/ Attendance of Extra-curricular Activities (past three years, up to six items)
- Certificates/ Attendance of Community Services & Internships (past three years, up to six items)
- Certificates/ Attendance of Awards & Achievements (past three years, up to six items)
2. Name your PDF file in the format of "AGS_EMA_student ID" (e.g. AGS_EMA_24221111). The PDF file should not exceed 50MB. Please upload it at the end of the application form.
3. Complete the application form in English.
4. Each student should submit the application form once only. No amendments can be made after submission. Therefore, please check carefully before submission.
5. You will receive an auto-email from the system upon successful submission. If no auto-email is received within 10 minutes, the form submission may be unsuccessful and applicants should inform the SFA unit via email at scholarship@hkbu.edu.hk.
Also note that:
1. The online application form will close automatically at the application deadline 5:30 pm of 16 January 2026 (Friday).
2. To avoid being late, you should submit your online application well before the deadline, as there may be unexpected technical errors/difficulties that require extra time to solve. Note that the submission time is subject to our system’s clock on the website, which may or may not be the same as your watch, and the Office of Student Affairs has the discretion to make final judgments on whether the application is considered late.
3. Incomplete or late online submissions will not be considered.
4. Application results will be announced by February 2026.
5. Awardees are required to submit a sharing passage, 3 photos and a completed evaluation survey to ussen@hkbu.edu.hk.

CHU Tsz Yan Candace, Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Music [Music Education]
It is my honour to be a recipient of the HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship (AGS). I am currently in the final year of my degree in music with my major instrument as violin. My concentration is in music education. I am currently working on my honours project about how music education can be beneficial for students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).Furthermore, I was also in the Peer Mentor Program to assist new students to adapt to the university, as well as serving as a Mental Health First Aid Captain to support other students’ mental health in the university and my own violin students as well.
This scholarship would contribute to paying for the last bit of my student loan, and upgrading some parts of my instrument. I am truly thankful for all the scholarships I have been given for the past few years.

I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the donors and committee members of the HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship. Your support has eased my financial stress regarding tuition fees, allowing me to step out of my comfort zone and focus on meaningful learning experiences.
This semester, I joined an extended study program at Beijing Normal Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU). The scholarship covered part of my living and travel expenses, including a study trip to Gansu Province organised by HKBU, where we explored the Silk Road and ancient Chinese cultures. We visited historical sites such as the Mogao Caves and the Jiayuguan Pass, which deepened my appreciation for China's rich heritage.

I am sincerely thankful to you for lending a helping hand to me when I encountered financial difficulties in my university life such as paying part of the tuition fee, hall fee and a gym membership.
With the scholarship support, I am able to pay for part of the student residence hall fee for the coming academic year. I believe that staying in the student residence hall can enrich my university life as I can make more new friends and study partners to broaden my horizons and motivate my studies. It is my pleasure to receive the HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship. This scholarship means a lot to me; not only does it relieve my financial difficulties, but it also motivates me to keep working hard and doing my best in the future.
With the support of the scholarship, I am able to purchase a computer for my studies. Throughout this year, I mainly used my iPad for my studies. It was inconvenient, especially when completing assignments. Typing was not as comfortable, and it was also difficult to manage multiple pages at the same time. With the computer I bought with the scholarship, I can enjoy studying in a more convenient and efficient way, and I feel more prepared to handle my academic workload.

Being honored to receive this scholarship has truly been a milestone in my university journey, and no words can express my gratitude for this financial support. Not only does it relieve my financial burdens, but it also supports me in exploring future interests and career pathways.
Part of this scholarship fund will be used to pay for the hall fees for the next semester, alleviate my daily commuting time to school by one and a half hours. As a student with SEN, I am dedicated to exploring educational opportunities and am keen to support other students with SEN in identifying and pursuing their interests. Scholarship support has not only alleviated financial pressure but has also enabled a more focused and ambitious engagement with my studies and future planning.
I primarily allocated the funding to cover transportation costs. In Hong Kong, daily commuting by MTR and bus can be expensive for me. The subsidy reduced the need to worry about Octopus or other payment top-ups each week, allowing me to focus more on coursework and revision rather than applying for additional part-time job for basic expenses.
With this support, I was able to strengthen my academic performance and deepen my reasoning skills as I was able to purchase more essential academic materials as well as purchase more professional AI- or IT-related software. Receiving the HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship has been a defining moment in my university journey as a student with special educational needs (SEN). The financial support directly addressed a long‑standing barrier in my daily learning.
I used the scholarship to purchase a new laptop. Previously, I relied on a tablet and often had to borrow library computers. The new laptop provides a stable, SEN‑friendly environment where I can access notes, write assignments, and organise my study materials anytime, without technical interruptions.
The difference has been immediate. My coursework submissions became more punctual. More importantly, the laptop reduced my daily stress, allowing me to focus on understanding concepts rather than struggling with devices.
