We warmly invite all eligible students to participate in the Election of Student Members to the Senate 2025-2026 (UG & RPg).  In this election, nine student representatives will be elected from each category, which includes:

·         All Undergraduates

·         Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

·         Faculty of Science

·         School of Business

·         School of Chinese Medicine

·         School of Communication

·         School of Continuing Education

·         School of Creative Arts

·         Research Postgraduates

Eligible undergraduate students may run in multiple categories (All Undergraduates plus their respective Faculty or School). The term of office for the elected members in this election will begin on 1 September 2025 and will continue until 31 August 2026.

 

Who can run for the Election?

According to the "Regulations Governing Elections of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Student Members to the Senate", a student can run for the Election (i.e. to become a Nominee) if he/she has been properly proposed and seconded for Election and is:

  • An undergraduate student of good academic standing (with a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.0) and not under disciplinary probation or approved leave of absence or suspension of studies at the time of nomination
  • A postgraduate student of good academic standing (with a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.5, except for Year 1 taught postgraduates (TPGs) who are in their first semester studies) and not under disciplinary probation or approved leave of absence or suspension of studies at the time of nomination, who has been properly proposed and seconded for election

“Undergraduate student” shall mean a person who is registered in a full-time or part-time programme based in Hong Kong, successful completion of which will lead to the award of a Bachelor’s degree by the University.

“Postgraduate student” shall mean a person who is registered in a full-time or part-time postgraduate taught/research programme based in Hong Kong, successful completion of which will lead to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s or Doctoral degree by the University.

 

How can I be nominated? 

Nominations for Election shall only be made by the form provided by the Office of Student Affairs for the purpose.

Type of StudentRequirements to be nominated
For Undergraduate Student representing all Undergraduate StudentsEach nomination shall be signed by one proposer and at TEN seconders, who are undergraduate students from at least FOUR different Faculties or Schools.
For Undergraduate Student representing a Faculty or SchoolEach nomination shall be signed by one proposer and TEN seconders, who are undergraduate students from the respective Faculty or School.
For Postgraduate Student representing all Postgraduate StudentsEach nomination shall be signed by one proposer and at least TWO seconders, who are research or taught postgraduate students.
For Postgraduate Student representing Research Postgraduate StudentEach nomination shall be signed by one proposer and TWO seconders who are research postgraduate students.
For Postgraduate Student representing Taught Postgraduate StudentEach nomination shall be signed by one proposer and TWO seconders who are taught postgraduate students.

 

What is the Senate?

The Senate is the highest authority on all academic-related matters of the University. Its powers and duties include:

  • Promoting and guiding the development of academic programmes and courses
  • Promoting and regulating teaching, learning and research activities
  • Making regulations on various academic affairs, including admission, promotion, registration, graduation and residence of students
  • Deciding on matters affecting the welfare and discipline of students
