Before voting between 5 March and 9 March, we encourage you to take a moment to read the candidates' election statements here to learn more about them. 

We are committed to nurturing student leadership and empowering our community. The Election of Student Members to the Council, Court and Senate is your chance to have a meaningful impact-by ensuring that student voices are represented at the highest levels of University governance.

We warmly invite all eligible students to participate in the Election. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to important decisions, communicate the concerns and aspirations of your fellow students, and develop valuable leadership skills that will benefit you beyond university life.

In this election, student representatives will be elected only from the categories that have valid nominations among the following groups:

Eligible students may run in multiple categories.  The terms of office for elected student members are as follows:

  • Senate Election (2026-27): Begins on 1 September 2026 and concludes on 31 August 2027.
  • Senate By-election (2025-26): Starts upon completion of the election and lasts until 31 August 2026.
  • Election to Council and Court (2026): Commences on the date of appointment by the Chairman of the Council, and lasts for one calendar year, or until the end of the student’s full-time status, whichever is earlier.
What is the Council and the Court?

The Council is the executive body of the University and, as such, may exercise all the powers conferred and perform all the duties imposed on the University by the Hong Kong Baptist University Ordinance. The Court is the supreme advisory body of the University, established in accordance with the Hong Kong Baptist University Ordinance and the Hong Kong Baptist University Statutes. Please visit this link for more information about the Council and the Court.

Who can run for the Election?

To be eligible to run for Election, a nominee must be a student in the relevant category they wish to represent. They should maintain good academic standing, with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 for Sub-degree and Undergraduate Students, or at least 2.5 for Postgraduate Students. Additionally, nominees must not be involved in any ongoing disciplinary proceedings or face any disciplinary sanctions that would disqualify them from holding office at the University. They should also not be under suspension or on an approved leave of absence. 

“Undergraduate Student” shall mean a person who is currently registered in a full-time undergraduate programme based in Hong Kong, the successful completion of which will lead to the award of a Bachelor’s degree by the University.

“Sub-degree Student” shall mean a person who is currently registered in a full-time sub-degree programme based in Hong Kong, the successful completion of which will lead to the award of an Associate Degree, Higher Diploma or Diploma by the University.

“Postgraduate Student” shall mean a person who is currently registered in a full-time postgraduate taught or research programme based in Hong Kong, the successful completion of which will lead to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s degree or Doctoral degree by the University.
 

How can I be nominated? 

Nominations for Election shall only be made by the form provided by the Office of Student Affairs for the purpose.

For Sub-degree Students and Undergraduate Student representing Sub-degree Students and Undergraduate StudentsEach nomination form shall be signed by ONE proposer and TEN seconders, who are Sub-degree Students or Undergraduate Students from at least FOUR different academic programmes.
For Postgraduate Student representing Postgraduate StudentsEach nomination shall be signed by ONE proposer and at least TWO seconders, who are Postgraduate Students. 

 

 

 

              What is the Senate?

              The Senate is the highest authority on all academic-related matters of the University. Its powers and duties include:

              • Promoting and guiding the development of academic programmes and courses
              • Promoting and regulating teaching, learning and research activities
              • Making regulations on various academic affairs, including admission, promotion, registration, graduation and residence of students
              • Deciding on matters affecting the welfare and discipline of students

              Who can run for the Election?

              According to the "Regulations Governing Elections of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Student Members to the Senate", a student can run for the Election (i.e. to become a Nominee) if he/she has been properly proposed and seconded for Election and is:

              • An undergraduate student of good academic standing (with a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.0) and not under disciplinary probation or approved leave of absence or suspension of studies at the time of nomination
              • A postgraduate student of good academic standing (with a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.5, except for Year 1 taught postgraduates (TPGs) who are in their first semester studies) and not under disciplinary probation or approved leave of absence or suspension of studies at the time of nomination, who has been properly proposed and seconded for election

              “Undergraduate student” shall mean a person who is registered in a full-time or part-time programme based in Hong Kong, successful completion of which will lead to the award of a Bachelor’s degree by the University.

              “Postgraduate student” shall mean a person who is registered in a full-time or part-time postgraduate taught/research programme based in Hong Kong, successful completion of which will lead to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s or Doctoral degree by the University.

              For Postgraduate Student representing all Postgraduate StudentsEach nomination shall be signed by ONE proposer and at least TWO seconders, who are Research or Taught Postgraduate Students.
              For Postgraduate Student representing Research Postgraduate StudentsEach nomination shall be signed by ONE proposer and TWO seconders, who are Research Postgraduate Students.
              For Postgraduate Student representing Taught Postgraduate StudentsEach nomination shall be signed by ONE proposer and TWO seconders, who are Taught Postgraduate Students.
