David Chan will share his early visual art form rooted in Chinese contemporary calligraphy to its later transformation into the boundless creativity of narrative structures on Chinese Contemporary ink creations of the "Ice Painting" series which he has created since 2020 as reflections on nature and life; each stage of Chan's creation represents his unique artistic expression and perception of contemporary society. Chan also reveals his artistic belief as a networked negotiation of hope, fear and data and emotional interpretation, where ideology masks its constructedness. In this talk, he will explore his creative practice—erasing calligraphic certainties into open scripts and melting his emotion and ideas into "Ice Paintings"—proposing that art stages empathetic and continuous creativity.
