This seminar explores the concept of “resilience” and its evolving meaning from engineering and biology to economics and geography. Focusing on Chinese cities, the session adopts an evolutionary economic geography perspective to analyze how different regions have navigated major external shocks such as the global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. Through case studies and theoretical insights, students will gain an understanding of the complex and uneven paths of regional development. Special attention will be given to the factors that enhance economic resilience, offering valuable knowledge for those interested in urban studies, economic geography, and regional policy.
