TSANG Ka Yin, Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Humanities [Media Studies and Creative Practice]

I am honored to have received the support of the donors and be selected as a recipient of the HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship. As a Year 4 student, being awarded this scholarship fills me with immense excitement and helps me soar to greater heights.

This scholarship has assisted me in better preparing for my future and challenging career plans. Currently, I work as a freelancer in the local cultural and arts industry, with a focus on developing my skills in music. I am learning the art of screaming vocals (a technique used in Metal music) and absorbing knowledge in various instruments, music theory, and technical aspects. My goal is to become an exceptional music producer and, in a few months, I plan to rent a studio to start my career. However, even after acquiring the studio, I will still need to purchase additional equipment such as a DJ Pad and sound system. While initially I may not have the means to buy brand new equipment, I hope that in the future, by taking on more projects, I can upgrade my gear.

I am deeply grateful to the donors for providing me with the seed capital for my career. Over the past year, due to various reasons, I have had to be financially independent, bearing all expenses including tuition fees, rent, and living expenses on my own. Although I am still able to sustain all these expenses on my own, this scholarship allows me to focus more quickly on my career goals and reduces the amount of time I need to spend on work to sustain my livelihood. It also provides me with more time to develop my skills in the music industry.

Throughout my four years of university, I am grateful for the endless support and assistance from the SEN support staff, who have helped me overcome many challenging times. My health has been unstable due to the pressures of academics and finances, especially this past year, during which I endured severe illness and pain, both physically and mentally. My struggle with illness began in high school, and I even had to take a year off. The pain in my brain and hands made it extremely challenging to complete my DSE exams. Therefore, I am grateful for the opportunity to study at HKBU, as it has transformed me from a lost child into a passionate adult with a strong career plan. Please allow me to express my gratitude once again to the donors of the alumni association for their generous contribution and to sincerely thank all the SEN support staff for their support over the past four years. I appreciate your recognition of my academic achievements and hope that in the future, after my journey, I can become a resilient individual who can help more SEN children like myself.
