As a SEN student, receiving this scholarship has been a transformative milestone in my academic and personal journey. The financial support has provided me with resources to focus on my studies and mental health, paving the way for meaningful progress.

The scholarship allows me to spend more time on entertainment. Before receiving the scholarship, I needed to work at least four days a week to earn money for daily expenses, like transportation fees and meal fees. Now I have more time to take a rest and do the things I like, such as crochet and painting. This allows me to improve my mental health and reduce my financial stress.

The reduced work hours have enabled me to dedicate more energy to my studies. Engaging in crochet and painting helps me manage panic attacks and approach coursework with renewed focus. I’ve also joined an art class, which has enriched my social and creative life, fostering connections that support my emotional well-being.

Despite these gains, my depression sometimes hinders my motivation, leading to occasional procrastination. Balancing hobbies and academics remains a challenge, as I sometimes overcommit to creative projects. I’m working on using a to-do list to prioritize tasks and seeking peer support to stay on track.

The scholarship has profoundly influenced my educational and career aspirations. By freeing me from the burden of part-time work, it has given me the time and mental clarity to explore graduate programs in my field, with a particular research interest that intersects with mental health advocacy. The scholarship has also motivated me to give back by advocating for mental health resources on campus, potentially through organising peer support groups or art-based wellness events. This support has not only solidified my commitment to further education but also ignited a vision for a future where I can empower others facing similar challenges, using my skills to foster resilience and community.
