CHAN Hau Yung, Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Chinese Language and Literature

The scholarship has allowed me to access essential resources, including therapy sessions, medication, and academic support tools such as tutoring and assistive technology. For example, I can have a consultation with Clinical Therapy when I need help more frequently and having medical serving in private clinic for better and shorter follow-up consultation. Additionally, the financial relief reduced my stress about tuition fees, allowing me to focus more on my studies.

With this support, I believe that my academic performance has improved so how and is on the right track. This semester, my attendance rate increased compare with last semester because I felt more motivated, and I hope this can also help me increasing my GPA. The therapy sessions helped me manage my anxiety during exams, quizzes and presentations, and I learned techniques to stay focused. Beyond academics, my overall well-being has improved. For example, I now have a structured routine and a stronger support system. I know how and where to seek help and start learning how to make myself feel better.

Despite the progress, challenges remain. Some days, my mental health still affects my productivity, and I struggle with self-doubt. Another issue is the lack of awareness among some peers and instructors about mental health struggles, which sometimes leads to misunderstandings. I hope universities can provide more mental health training for staff and students to create a more inclusive environment.

This scholarship has reinforced my belief that I can succeed despite my struggles. I now plan to pursue higher education in my field, which is BA, hoping to support others facing similar challenges by my hobby—writing. The scholarship not only helped me academically but also restored my confidence in building a future.

I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and hope that more students with mental health challenges receive the support they need to thrive.
