Sharing of Scholarship Recipients - AU Wing Man

AU Wing Man, Bachelor of Social Work (Hons.)

It is my honour to receive the HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship, and I am grateful to the alumni donors for this incredible support. Your generosity helped me to get through financial difficulties in university life such as buying a new digital device and paying a part of the tuition fee.

With the support of this scholarship, I was able to purchase an iPad keyboard, significantly enhancing the quality of my studies. I now enjoy researching more comfortably and efficiently, thanks to the ease of typing rather than tapping on a screen. Beyond academics, the relief from tuition stress has made me more effective in my studies and even helped me enter a flow state more easily while playing the piano.

Although I took pleasure in studying, there were times that I had no motivation. I was afraid of poor performance in assignments and presentations. Adjusting expectations has been a long term task for me. The scholarship's support gave me room to breathe and grow as it eased a part of my financial burden. Not worrying about resources as much as before, I could have more time to think of a solution like breaking down goals into smaller steps as an easier start, though I still procrastinated due to the perception of failure. In this process, I have discovered that there may not always be a perfect solution for every single task, but I could follow my flow to make decisions. For example, I can treat myself better by having a cup of favourite tea during a break. After processing bad feelings, there would be a way for me to fix the issues in life. Sometimes hearing the needs of inner voice can relieve stress and pave the way to the destination.

This scholarship inspires me to discover the potential needs of clients as a future social worker. People may not know how to use plenty of resources without a specific plan, thereby I would like to help my clients to reach suitable and useful support from my research experience. Without the support of the Unit for Students with Special Educational Needs, I would not have much information regarding financial or university life support. Having sufficient information is crucial for a person’s development. Thank you for your significant encouragement.
