Title of the talk: Promoting DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) at a Japanese comprehensive university
Abstract: After an explanation of the relevant key concepts related to DEI, I will provide a brief history of our university’s commitment to the promotion of gender equality and diversity – as well as their interconnection—and then introduce the initiatives we launched since I took charge of the promotion of DEI in the university as the executive trustee starting April, 2021. I will discuss the difficulties I encountered and the issues still to be resolved. The cultural context of Japan will be invoked, as I experienced it through marginalized positionalities.
