Artificial Intelligence ethics discussions have largely centered around perspectives and concerns primary to Western nations, including the Western philosophical tradition and European and American industries. This conference addresses the social and ethical concerns of AI from the perspective of East Asia. The philosophical and religious traditions from this part of the world offer different important perspectives on AI, and the economic, political, cultural and social concerns surrounding AI are not strictly the same as European and American concerns. Jointly organized with the Dicastery for Culture and Education’s Centre for Digital Culture, we bring together scholars of religion, philosophy, sociology, and other disciplines from across Asia and the world to address the concerns AI raises for the future of this region.
