In this lecture demonstration, Elliot Leung will discuss his role as a composer when developing an open-world game. How to understand game mechanic and its relationship with music when the game has no linear narrative? How to design music when a gamer has total control? What is the composer’s mindset and necessary skill to write music for this genre? Elliot will share his experience as a game music composer, and will interact with the audience to demonstrate how to observe game triggers and how music can cope with game actions. He will look at some classics open-world game design as case studies. Finally, Elliot will lay out his idea on how game music design informs his composition of the futuristic Metaverse Symphony.
