Janine Antoni, a Bahamian artist born in 1964, is known for her transformative sculptures and performances that explore the creative process from a female perspective. Using various materials and mediums, including food, stone, photography, and video, Antoni emphasizes the meaning of art-making. Her renowned work "Lick and Lather" (1993) features 14 self-portrait busts made of chocolate and soap, which she erases by licking and bathing, creating a collective representation of presence and absence while questioning beauty ideals. In this artist talk, Antoni will discuss her career and recent projects with Elaine Ng, Assistant Professor at AVA/SCA.
