Dr. Hammers is a distinguished researcher in the field of Chinese art history and theory, with a particular focus on representations of labor and technologically-informed imagery. Her acclaimed book "Pictures of Tilling and Weaving: Art, Labor, and Technology in Song and Yuan China" (Hong Kong University Press, 2011) was honored with the prestigious College Art Association’s Millard Meiss prize. In her upcoming publication, "The Imperial Patronage of Labor Genre Paintings in Eighteenth-Century China," she delves into the evolution of imagery surrounding rice and silk production. Currently, Dr. Hammers is finalizing a manuscript on Qing-dynasty depictions of cotton and crafting an article exploring the reception of Chinese technological imagery in 17th and 18th century France and England.
