Ray of Hope

Aster WONG Yau Wai (Public Relations and Advertising, Advertising and Branding)

My internship experience at Ray of Hope has undoubtedly expanded my professional network, particularly within the Singaporean community. Through various networking events and collaborative projects, I've had the opportunity to connect with and get to know a diverse array of individuals. This exposure has opened up a whole new world of potential career paths and opportunities for me.

Prior to this internship, my professional network was fairly localized, confined primarily to my home country. However, working at an organization like Ray of Hope, which has a global footprint and a multicultural workforce, has allowed me to build meaningful relationships with people from all around the world. I now have a strong network of contacts in Singapore, as well as in other key interaction hubs globally. This has significantly broadened my horizons and made me realize that my future career does not have to be limited by geographic boundaries.

In fact, this newfound global perspective has directly influenced my career planning and aspirations. Whereas before I may have focused my job search primarily within my home country, I am now much more open to exploring opportunities overseas, whether that involves working remotely for an international organization or potentially relocating to a different market entirely. The internship has given me the confidence to think more ambitiously about my professional trajectory and consider how I can leverage my diverse network to achieve my goals.

Beyond just expanding my network, the internship has also been invaluable in helping me develop the skills and mindset required to effectively collaborate with people from different cultural backgrounds. Working closely with colleagues from Singapore has exposed me to a wide range of communication styles, work ethics, and problem-solving approaches. I've had to be adaptable, empathetic, and intentional in my interactions to ensure smooth and productive teamwork. This cross-cultural experience has truly bolstered my confidence and versatility as a young professional.

I now feel better equipped to navigate the increasingly globalized business landscape, build trust and rapport with diverse stakeholders, and contribute as an effective team player, regardless of the cultural context. These are incredibly valuable competencies that will undoubtedly serve me well as I continue to chart my career path, whether that leads me to opportunities within Singapore or beyond.
