Three HKBU students secured one bronze award and two merit awards at the 10th Hong Kong Techathon+ held from 21 to 24 January.

Soundarajan Narayanan, a master’s student in the Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence programme, teamed up with peers from other universities to win the Bronze Award in the student group of the Trusted AI & Data Science category for their project titled “AI-Powered Smart Wearable Device for Continuous Blood Pressure Monitoring and Healthcare Applications”. This innovative solution aims to benefit individuals with hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and pregnant women.

Vishal Ginni, a bachelor’s student in the Mathematics and Statistics programme, received the Merit Award in the student group of the Digital Economy category for the “NorthStar” team project. Meanwhile, Zhao Yuxi, a bachelor’s student in the Business Computing and Data Analytics programme, earned the Merit Award in the open group of the Smart Cities category for the team project “ResQNet—Where networks end, we begin”.

Hong Kong Techathon+ is the city’s largest international intercollegiate innovation and technology competition, co-organised by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and 15 institutions including HKBU. This year’s competition attracted 1,900 participants from local and overseas universities, who formed 470 teams. HKBU fielded 13 students, with seven teams advancing to the finals to compete across four categories.
