HKBU Students Win HK$100,000 Cyberport Seed Fund for Innovative AI Project at CUPP

A team of our talented students has secured a HK$100,000 start-up seed fund at this year’s Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP), standing out among peers from 12 local universities.

Launched in 2015, CUPP is a highly respected entrepreneurship programme that nurtures future FinTech leaders through boot camps, mentorship, and competitions. This year’s focus areas included Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Cybersecurity, and Data Science—empowering the next generation of tech-savvy innovators.

Nominated and supported by the HKBU Career Centre, the winning team Sign Language Make Easy (SLME) stood out for their innovative project with a strong social mission. Their AI-powered smart glasses are designed to enhance everyday communication for the deaf-mute community, making interactions more accessible and inclusive.

The team members of SLME are:

  • DALAL Ismatbanu Junedbhai – BSc in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence), Year 3
  • ASMA Mohammad – BSc in Business Computing and Data Analytics, Year 4
  • DHAR Kartikay – BBA (Economics and Data Analytics), Recent Graduate

Throughout the programme, the SLME team took part in intensive local training, joined an inspiring bootcamp at Draper University in Silicon Valley, and showcased their project at Demo Day. Their hard work and innovative spirit earned them a top 10 spot and funding from the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) to help turn their prototype into reality.
