Q1: How do I know if I am a "student intern" or "work experience student"?
A1:

Please refer to both definitions given in Section A.
If you have any questions, please contact the Career Center (3411 7440/bucareer@hkbu.edu.hk).

Q2: Can I get an exemption for a job with an employment period that lasts beyond 59 days?
A2:

No. 59 days is the maximum day of exempt student employment unless you are a student intern.  Otherwise, the Minimum Wage Ordinance applies from your 60th day of employment.

Q3: What should I do if an employer asks me to provide the document verifying my "work experience student" status?
A3:

You can fill in the Confirmation of student status for "work experience student" under the Minimum Wage Ordinance and get the endorsement from the Academic Registry. Then you have to make Statutory Declaration at the District Offices of the Home Affairs Department. Please refer to website at Home Affairs Department for details: http://www.had.gov.hk/en/public_services/public_enquiry_services/provided.htm

Please note that to make the statutory declaration, you need to confirm the company name and job commencement date.

Q4: What should I do if an employer asks me to provide the document verifying my "student intern" status?
A4:

The "student intern" confirmation can only be provided when you are offered the job. After you have got an offer, you can ask your academic department to sign the student intern form for you.
