Culture For A Sustainable City

We live in this era: every year is the hottest on record, typhoons in November, marine resources are depleted, glaciers disappear, virgin forests are cleared, and species become extinct.

When the world sets "sustainable development" goals, and when every sector is implementing them? What is the cultural community doing? What should culture do? Can culture contribute to a sustainable city?

After giving more than 200 lectures on "How Cities Culture?", Louis Yu’s new talk is an insightful sharing for anyone who cares about culture and a sustainable future.

[About the Speaker]

Mr. Louis Yu Kwok-lit 茹國烈先生 MH

Louis Yu is the founder of the Hong Kong Culture and Sustainability Conference. He also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and sits on the Advisory Committee on Countryside Conservation of the HKSAR. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He has written 3 books: How Cities Culture (2022), Towards a Cultural City (2024) and Culture for a Sustainable City (2026). 

His previous roles include Director of the Hong Kong Art School, Executive Director for Performing Arts at the West Kowloon Cultural District, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and Executive Director of the Hong Kong Arts Centre.

Prof. Lo Kwai Cheung 羅貴祥教授
Professor, Academy Director of Language and Culture (LAC)

K.C. Lo received his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Stanford University and has taught at the University of California, Santa Cruz and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology before joining HKBU in 1998. His research interests are Cultural Studies, Creative Writing, Film Studies, Ethnic Studies, East-West Comparative Studies, Literary Theory, and Psychoanalysis. He has recently completed a book manuscript on China’s ethnic minority cinema.
