Transnational Feminism emerged as a challenge to nation-centric scholarly foci on gender and intersectionality in the one-third world. This approach attempts to bridge some of the knowledge hierarchies between the one-third and two-thirds worlds. The speaker will begin with a brief outline of the emergence of transnational feminism. She will then discuss some of the problems and prospects of using a transnational feminist frame using examples from migration research and studies of violence against women. She will conclude with some reflections on the extent to which a transnational feminist approach addresses some methodological challenges of studying contemporary social worlds.
