YU Chung Man Janice; Bachelor of Arts (Hons.)
in Music [Music Education]

I am very thankful to be one of the recipients of the HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship (AGS) this year and this is my great honor to receive this prestigious award. I must take this opportunity to express my immense gratitude to the University alumni for their generous support for this amazing scholarship. SEN students need to face more challenges and require much more efforts in their study path. Since the recipients of the scholarship are awarded in recognition for their outstanding or significant improvement in academic performance, this incredible award gives me a great motivation and opportunity to thrive for the highest in my study journey.

My study programme in Hong Kong Baptist University is Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Music and my programme concentration is music education. Upon completion, I plan to pursue a career in school music teaching. Since financing my further education is a heavy burden on me and my family, the scholarship will lessen my financial pressure and allow me to continue my study journey. Now, my lifelong dream towards being a music educator is approaching nearer and I am moving forward. As a recipient of this award, I aim on using the scholarship to study Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in one of the local universities after my graduation of the bachelor’s degree in HKBU. The programme will prepare me to become competent and confident teacher either in primary or secondary schools in Hong Kong and it helps me to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required of fully qualified school teacher. For entering the field in professional teaching, the qualification is a must-have. I hope I could achieve my goal to engage in teaching profession in the nearest future. Besides, the scholarship also provides financial support for fulfilling my other dream of studying abroad for my master’s degree in music, aiming to have my horizon broadened and equip myself as a well-trained music educator. Education is like a cycle of work which nurtures young minds and fosters growth and development of the society by the future pillars. A music educator can enlighten the minds of the future generations and provide them with platforms and skills to unleash their full potential not only musically but also intellectually.

I am truly grateful for receiving the scholarship support on my further studies. The award gives me financially assistance and enables me additional educational opportunities and career pathways.  Once again, thank you all the donors for their thoughtful and generous gift. I hope more SEN students will be benefited from HKBU Alumni Gratitude Scholarship (AGS) in future and they could thrive in their own way and make their life difference.
