I strongly believe that education is every individual’s birth right and I aspire to ensure equal accessibility to education for everyone. I consider myself to be very fortunate to be able to choose the country and university I want to study in, but not many people have the opportunity to do so. Day in and day out, I see a lot of children who need to be in schools, but are deprived of their education, due to financial issues. Growing up, every morning when I catch the bus to school, I see some other kids who look to be of my age either helping their parents or are struggling to earn money for basic necessities. This impacted me a lot.
As I moved to different countries for education purposes, I took these opportunities to significantly strengthen my confidence, communication skills, positive attitude, and of course learnt to be more independent. With all this exposure and various other skills, I aspire to lead my own business in the future. I have always wanted to do something for the society, especially for less fortunate young children to fulfil their educational aspirations, since education is an asset which will lead them to success and is something that no one can steal from them. Through this donation, I further understand the importance of contributions to student’s education and has made me want to pursue my dream even more! Having said so, I am very honoured to be one of the recipients of the Padma & Hari Harilela Scholarship fund for Outstanding Students.
I can only hope that the kids that I help to attain their educational aspirations, in turn help someone else to attain theirs thus continuing this cycle, till we rid the world of illiteracy completely.
