Mr. & Mrs. Sydney S.O. Au Memorial Scholarship.
It is my deepest honour to be one of the recipients of the 2021/22 Mr. & Mrs. Sydney S.O. Au Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship greatly encourages me to strive for a better future.
I am now a year-three student majoring in History and Education. Studying history at university has been my goal throughout my senior year in high school but I guess this goal would surprise the six years old little me. Before entering primary school, I knew nothing about history and dreamed about being a painter. I was addicted to comic books and frequently borrowed comic books with colourful illustrations from the library during my years in primary school. Then, historical comic books were one of my targets. I started to learn and know more about history. Those stories are fascinating and build up my interest in history. Eventually, I chose history and Chinese history as my elective subjects in high school. I had so much fun in the lessons and enjoyed them. Unsurprisingly, I continued my path in studying history at university.
As a history student, drafting research papers almost become my daily routine. The more you write, the more weakness you see in yourself. I found out that my English language skills are not good enough for me to express myself explicitly in my papers. Also, I discovered that my knowledge of history is narrow. So, I want to improve myself in these aspects and seek opportunities to attend some language courses as well as activities to explore more that help broadens my horizons.
At last, I would like to thank you again for awarding me the scholarship, which allows me to improve and explore more in the future. This honoured gift has affirmed my study and motivated me to pursue a brighter future.
