CHIU Sin Ying (Accounting)
AIA Scholarships

It is an honor for me to be awarded as one of the 2021-22 AIA Scholarship winners. I would to express my gratitude for the kindness of AIA Foundation. I am glad to be able to seize more opportunities at the University because of this generous gift.

As an Accounting student with a secondary concentration in Finance, I am eager to expand my accounting knowledge and business acumen. This year, I joined AIESEC, a student organization that broadens my worldview and connects me with the real world outside of college. Because I am a member of the Departments of Finance, Legality, and Information Management, I have gained the opportunity to practice my accounting knowledge and get to understand further how the current corporate world operates. I have gotten a deeper understanding of how to come up with several accounting-related statements and the government laws about exchange visas. Furthermore, I had the chance to interact with and exchange ideas with a variety of outstanding professionals, which improved my communication skills and broadened my horizons outside of the business world.

Aside from what I've achieved, another important thing I plan to do is go for an exchange abroad. My observations and experiences, I believe, are only the tip of the iceberg. There are many more incredible things just waiting for me to reveal them. "Potential return rises with an increase in risk," according to one of the financial concepts I've learned. Exchange abroad is undoubtedly a challenge, but I would gladly accept it because I believe that by accepting this challenge, many benefits will be accrued.  The exchange opportunity would be at the top of my priority list in university life.

Moreover, I have always devoted myself to volunteering and consistently supported or participated in local community service over the years. One of my most rewarding experiences was visiting people who lived in subdivided rooms and assisting them with basic pest control services. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to reach out to them and learn more about their societal needs. Life is fleeting. Someday, I hope to have more opportunities to participate in global service as well.

Thanks again to the AIA Foundation for offering me this scholarship. I greatly appreciate this award. This honor not only validates my efforts but also enlarges my possibilities in the future and I will continue in doing community service and becoming a pillar of society.
