Providence Foundation Bursaries 2024-25 (Deadline: 2024.09.30 @5:30pm)
Providence Foundation Bursaries 2024-25 is a separate application which is not included in the University Bursaries and Loans 2024-25 one-off application. Students who have genuine financial need and meet the application eligibility can apply for both Providence Foundation Bursaries and University Bursaries and Loans in the academic year 2024-25. Students who are nominated/allocated the Providence Foundation Bursaries 2024-25 will have a lower priority for University Bursaries and Loans 2024-25.
Providence Foundation Limited is a generous donor who has been providing financial support for HKBU students since 1993. They are honoured as Honorary Permanent President of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation.
Bursary Amount and No. of Nominees
- HK$6,000 to HK$15,000 per recipient, decided by the donor.
- Scholarships & Financial Aid Unit of the University will nominate not more than 10 candidates for the Foundation's final selection. If no candidates are judged to have sufficient merits and financial need, the donor will withdraw the bursary.
Eligibility and Criteria
Applicants must be full-time local students in any year of their first undergraduate programmes (UGC-funded programmes only) and have genuine financial need. Applicants with the latest cGPA 2.80 or above (for continuing students and Non-JUPAS freshmen) or HKDSE score 22 or above (3 cores + 2 electives) (for JUPAS freshmen) will have a higher priority. The Foundation will do assessment based on the following point rating system:
(A) Academic performance criteria (20%)
(B) Applicant and family financial criteria (70%)
(i) Applicant’s financial need
(ii) Total family income
(iii) Family adversities
(iv) Excessive or prolonged medical expenses
(v) Family housing, whether public or private
(vi) Number of siblings studying including applicant
(vii) Family debt burden and reason caused
(C) Special difficulties (10%)
Application Procedure and Deadline
- Fill in the TWO forms [both are required to submit]: Application Form and Form of Additional Information [both 1-page in .docx format]. Use separate sheets of paper if necessary. Preferably type with computer and be careful with the format and layout of the form. If it is necessary for you to fill in the form with a pen, write neatly.
- Prepare all the required supporting documents. The document list is on the Form of Additional Information.
- A recommendation letter by applicant’s professor, lecturer or tutor who knows the applicant best is one of the required documents. If you wish to apply for this Bursaries, please ask the teacher to for the recommendation letter as early as possible, so that the teacher has enough time to prepare the letter for you to meet the deadline for application.
- A recommendation letter serves as a proof that a teacher of yours recommends a good student like you.
- When you request a teacher to write a recommendation letter for you, please provide them with the followings:
- Your latest transcript
- Brief description of your strengths, skills, abilities and experiences, the activities you have participated, etc.

- Refer to the document list on the Form of Additional Information for more details regarding the recommendation letter.
- Submit the hard copy of the TWO completed forms and all the required supporting documents in person or by post to Scholarships and Financial Aid Unit (SFA), Office of Student Affairs, WLB401, Level 4, The Wing Lung Bank Building for Business Studies, Shaw Campus, at or before 5:30pm on 30 September 2024 (Monday). If you choose to submit it by post, the post has to reach our Office by the deadline.
- Before visiting the SFA counter for submission, staple or bind your form and supporting documents to ONE set with a staple, clip or treasury tag on the top left corner.
Application Form with e-signature or signature not signed by the person concerned, scanned or photocopy of the signed Application Form, incomplete application, missing documents and late submission of the Application Form, Form of Additional Information and/or supporting documents will not be considered.
