  1. Check all in-room items
  2. Complete the In-room Item Confirmation and Health Declaration at BUniPort > U-Life > Hall Residence within 48 hours.
Note: If you do not complete them on time, the University will assume that:
  1. your room is free from any defects, and
  2. you will be responsible for the make good or replacement cost for any items found missing or malfunctioning during room inspection if such defected items were not reported in the BUniPort before.

Go to your room, and:
 
  1. Check all in-room items

When typhoon signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted:

  • Non-local students may continue with your trips to the Halls. We would arrange you to check into the rooms. But you need to visit our G4 Service Counter on the following day to complete the check-in procedures.
  • For local students, the check-in procedures will be postponed to the next working day.

Dear Residents,

Welcome to the Undergraduate Halls in 2023/24! As you are about to check in to the Halls, you are strongly advised to pay attention to the following must-know information to ensure a healthy and safe living in the Halls. 

Do NOT Use Insect Foggers
NO fragrance, mosquito coils, or insect foggers should be used in the bedrooms as they will trigger the fire alarm system.

Flammability Standards of Mattress and Upholstered Furniture
You MUST obtain prior approval from the Hall Management before you bring your own mattresses / upholstered furniture into the Halls.

Mails, Parcels and Deliveries
Parcel and mail services are applicable for CHECKED-IN residents only. Ordinary mails will be sent to the mailbox on the G/F. For other parcels or deliveries, the Hall Office will email residents for collection, except the following items:

  1. items without accurate and complete information,
  2. items that require signature/payment,
  3. items  of any side longer than 60cm
  4. perishable food e.g. frozen food
  5. any items that hinder the operation of the Hall Office

Please note that items uncollected for 7 calendar days will be returned to sender accordingly. If you are not able to collect the items, you may email ughall@hkbu.edu.hk to authorize another HKBU student to collect it on your behalf.

Bringing in Large or Electrical Items into the Halls
You MUST obtain prior approval from the Hall Management before you bring in items with any side longer than 1 meter or Electrical appliances with high power consumption (except light appliances for grooming purpose). For details, please click HERE. Residents, especially non-local residents who come to Hong Kong for their first time, are advised to read the Safe Use of Plugs, Adaptors and Extension Units.  Any 2-pin plugs and other substandard adaptors are NOT allowed.

Bring minimum luggage to the Halls on the day of check-in to avoid congestion. There is no provision of beddings in the room.

The following items are not allowed in the Halls:

  • Alcohol or drugs
  • Cigarettes
  • Weapons
  • Pets and animals
  • Mahjong and other gambling materials
  • Electrical appliances not complying with local safety standards
  • Deep reach insect fogger(滅蚤煙霧器), fragrance, mosquito coils

You must obtain prior approval in order to bring in the following items into the Halls:

  • Your own mattresses/upholstered furniture 
  • Any items with any side longer than 1 meter 
  • Electrical appliances with high power consumption

For example, N 12 34 L denotes:

All students are assigned to the vacant beds (A/B/C in 3-person room, and L/R in 2-person room) according to the last 3 digits of their student number.

 

Residents may interchange their bed places with their roommates within the same room. For change of bed within the same room, you need to submit the "Application for Room/Bed Change" to your respective Resident/Hall Tutor for endorsement. You shall then come to the G4 Service Counter for the updating of your Students Cards and Door Cards within 2 working days after submission of the form.
 
Change of room is not allowed in the first month of residence. For change of room/Hall, you need to complete and submit the "Application for Room/Bed Change" to your respective Resident/Hall Tutor only after one month of check-in. If supported by the Resident Community Officer and/or Resident Master, as required, the change can take effect at the G4 Service Counter with an administrative fee of $100 per resident. Involved residents must come to the G4 Service Counter for the updating of Student Cards, Door Cards, Washroom and Mailbox Keys within 2 working days after submission of the form or by a time as assigned by the G4 Service Counter, whichever the earlier.
 
 

Applicants are responsible to settle any difference in Hall fees incurred, if any, due to change to a different room. 
In-room air-conditioning and laundry machines on the 1/F are self-paid by using the payment kiosk(s) installed on each floor and the laundry rooms or via mobile payment using the HKBU Mobile App. Octopus Cards and other mobile payment methods are accepted. 
 
*Non-local freshmen and Exchange students are reminded that they should obtain Octopus Cards upon arrival in Hong Kong. Details of Octopus Cards are available HERE
 
Charge of Air-conditioning:
HK$1.4 per kWh
 
Charge of Laundry machines:
  • HK$5.4 per washing cycle around 40mins
  • HK$1.2 per 10 mins drying

Residents are able to access the HKBU campus network in the Halls through both wired and wireless connections. The details of internet connections are available HERE.

The University “Follow-U-Print” printing service is available at the Halls. Residents can upload print jobs and collect the printouts at a “Follow-U-Print” printer. The UGH “Follow-U-Print” printers are located at:

  • Computer Room on 1/F (Room 110)
  • N1926 Project Room
  • S1926 Project Room

To report defects, please follow the path:
 
Login to BUniPort > U-Life > Hall Residence > Report Defects.

For defect which requires immediate attention, please contact the G4 service counter or the security counter at the South Tower (after office hours).
