2023-2024 Hall Tutor and Non-local Mentor Recruitment

 

Roles and Duties

Hall Tutor (HT) and Non-local Mentor (NLM) are student leaders at the Undergraduate Halls responsible for maintaining a safe, warm and supportive living-learning environment.

 

Hall Tutor

  • To serve as a role model of fellow residents and abide by the University’s Standard Code of Conduct, Terms and Conditions of Hall Residence, Hall Rules and Regulations and Residents’ Code being in force;
  • To monitor the well-being and disciplines of fellow residents, especially those of the same floor;
  • To exhort residents to comply with hall rules and regulations and to report any irregularities in residents’ behaviors to the respective Resident Community Officer;
  • To motivate residents to maintain a harmonious and congenial relationship among themselves and promote integration and inclusion among residents;
  • To take lead in resolving minor conflicts and disputes among residents;
  • To take care of residents of the same floor;
  • To assist in any administrative tasks as assigned by the Resident Master/ or Resident Community Officer;
  • To enhance the communication between the hall management and residents at large by helping to collect and reflect residents’ views and opinions promptly and accurately and to explain to them, decisions or conclusions made by relevant committees and consultative groups as well as the rationales and good causes behind those decisions;
  • To record residents’ participation in hall / campus life education activities and gather feedback from them;
  • To encourage resident involvement and participation in hall life education programmes as well as activities organized by university-wide organizations in order to enhance their attributes and personal growth;
  • To attend and participate in regular meetings with respective Resident Master and/or Resident Community Officer to keep up with current issues and concerns;
  • To assist in other duties as assigned by the Resident Master and/or Resident Community Officer.
 

Non-local Mentor

  • To serve as a role model of fellow residents and abide by the University’s Standard Code of Conduct, Terms and Conditions of Hall Residence, Hall Rules and Regulations and Residents’ Code being in force;
  • To collaborate with Hall Tutors and to update Hall Tutors on any irregularities in residents’ behaviors;
  • To provide support and care to non-local residents regarding to their well-being in the Halls and in the University;
  • To encourage non-local students’ involvement and participation in hall life education programmes as well as activities organized by university-wide organizations for better inclusion to the university community and personal growth;
  • To facilitate integration and inclusion between local and non-local residents in the Halls;
  • To assist in the implementation of non-local students related activities;
  • To attend and participate in regular meetings with respective Resident Master and/or Resident Community Officer to keep up with current issues and concerns;
  • To assist in other duties as assigned by the Resident Master and/or Resident Community Officer.

 

Eligibility

* Student must possess a student status of “Normal Study” as defined by the Academic Registry at the time of application (except students who are currently on exchange or internship) and during the appointment period. Student who ceases to be classified as “Normal Study” will no longer be eligible for being a Hall Tutor or Non-local Mentor and will be required to check out of the Halls.
